Riley J. Hoff-Larocca, age 26, passed away suddenly on Friday morning April 14th of injuries sustained in an auto accident near his home in Taylors Falls, MN. Riley was a Corrections Officer for the Polk County, WI. Sheriff's Office at the Balsam Lake Jail. He was the beloved son of Kathleen "Katie" McFarland and Luke Larocca, Tina and Eric Hoff, loving brother of Laura, Luke and Caroline Larocca, Lynn and Morgan Hoff.
Riley was a longtime Flossmoor resident, a graduate of Homewood-Flossmoor H.S. and the University of Illinois where he proudly assisted the U. of I. Tennis team for four years.
In his short life, Riley was able to touch many others along the way. He lived life to the fullest, always pushing his limits and those around him. He loved to help others and spent a lot of time mentoring and teaching. He taught tennis at Olympia Fields C.C. and he taught English in Korea. He spent a lot of time assisting with healthcare in Uganda and he even tended bar in Ireland. Riley lived his life with a passion and a sense of urgency that defied the norm, but made for lasting memories and friendships worldwide.
When he wasn't helping others, he enjoyed his own accomplishments. He had a drive like no other. He qualified for the Boston Marathon on his first try, which takes most runners years, if ever. When he did compete in the famous Boston Marathon, he finished with a competitive 3:10, which, he was disappointed with. He was a cross-fit guru and loved every second of it.
See, Riley always gave his best effort at everything he did from the time he was a little boy. Though his life was cut short, Riley will always be remembered as an excellent student, great trainer, great teacher, athlete, and friend to all he touched. He was a special person and loving son, grandson, brother, and nephew and will be always missed, but never forgotten.
