Weslaco: Abelardo Perez Sr., 61, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. Abelardo was born on May 7, 1961, to Victoriano and Maria (Ramirez) Perez in Weslaco, Texas. Abelardo grew up in Weslaco and learned welding in high school, a trade he would use throughout his life. Abelardo was a hard worker, usually holding down multiple jobs. He worked in construction for most of his life and became a talented carpenter. The combination of being a welder and a carpenter were invaluable. Abelardo was brilliant and learned many trades throughout his life, allowing him to work in various fields. Most recently, he worked for the City of Weslaco. Abelardo met Elida Gonzalez at a barbecue in Reynosa in 2001, and they spent the rest of their lives together. They had one son, and Abelardo was overjoyed. When Abelardo wasn't working, he was spending time with Abelardo Jr. or his family. He loved to barbecue and watch football. The most important thing to Abelardo was his faith in God. Abelardo was generous, humble, and had a servant's heart. Abelardo is preceded in death by his dad, Victoriano Perez, brother Victor Perez, and nephew, Jesus Roman. He is survived by his loving wife, Elida, mom, Maria Ramirez Perez, son, Abelardo Perez Jr., daughters, Cynthia Michelle Perez Garcia, Elizabeth Perez Ramirez, and Becky Perez Trinidad, brothers Manuel Perez (Epefania+), Oscar Perez, Baldo Perez (Eva), sisters, Maria Elena Medina (Alfredo+) and Virginia Hernandez (Leonel), and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday, July 29th, 10 am-9 pm, with a prayer service at 7 pm. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 30th, at 9 am, at Sacred Park Cemetery in Mercedes.
