Baltazar Coronado

April 25, 1949 — June 7, 2022

Harlingen: Baltazar Coronado, 73, passed away on June 7, 2022, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen. On April 25, 1949, Baltazar was born to Manuel R. and Maria (Guerrero) Coronado in Brownsville, Texas. Baltazar grew up in Raymondville with ten siblings. After graduating from high school, Baltazar earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Pan American University. He joined the United States Air Force as an officer shortly after graduating from college and served four years. After being honorably discharged, Baltazar continued his education, earning a Doctorate in Law from the University of Texas.

Baltazar met lifelong friends while attending college. He began a career in service, working as an attorney for Texas Rural Legal Aid. Baltazar served for over thirty years, retiring only after suffering a severe spinal cord injury.

Baltazar had two daughters, Victoria Frocks Coronado and Theresa Frocks Coronado, who he adored more than life. He was also a favorite uncle to many of his nephews and nieces, and Baltazar loved them.

Baltazar loved to watch Texas Longhorn Football and collect Longhorn memorabilia. Baltazar also appreciated antiques and was a collector. Baltazar traveled often and visited many classmates during those excursions. One of his favorite times of year was “Poker Night,” an annual event for all of Baltazar’s college law school classmates.

Baltazar loved his chosen career, and many would consider him a “work-a-holic.” He spent countless hours making sure his clients received a fair trial.

Baltazar is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Maria Coronado, siblings, Maria C. Silva (Juan), Lee Coronado, Theresa C. Rodriguez (Ignacio), and Melchor Coronado.

He is survived by his daughters, Victoria Coronado of Germany and Theresa Coronado of Harlingen, sisters, Esther C. Bustamante (Frank) of Pasadena, Lucy C. Cavazos of Raymondville, Norma L. Olvera (Leonel+) of Raymondville, and Magdelina C. Ramirez (Mario+) of Raymondville, brothers, Josue Coronado (Josefa+) of Austin, Manuel Coronado (Candelaria) of San Antonio, and Gaspar Coronado (Anna) of San Angelo, sister in law, Alicia Coronado (widow of Lee), God-daughter, Danniela Cavazos, and mother of his children, Rosa Peña Coronado.
