    Benilde Chapa "Vanessa"

    October 14, 1976 - September 9, 2021

    Edinburg- Benilde Chapa “Vanessa,” 44, passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2021, after a brief illness at Knapp Medical Center. On October 14, 1976, Vanessa was born to Ernesto Chapa and Maria Lupita Garza in Houston, Texas. Vanessa grew up in Edinburg with seven siblings. After graduating from Edinburg North High School, Vanessa graduated from UCAS Beauty School. She was a talented cosmetologist and earned the following of many clients over the years. Vanessa was a hard worker and had a friendly and outgoing personality. She also worked in customer service for many years, and Vanessa had a way to make any customer happy. Vanessa loved music and dancing. She enjoyed a good barbecue with family and watching the Dallas Cowboys play football. She also loved to spend the day at South Padre Island with her kids. One of her favorite attractions was Schlitterbahn. Vanessa was a great mom to her three boys, Raphael, Michael, and Keven. She also had a new grandson, Adiel, who she adored. Vanessa's family was essential, and she cherished holidays at her mom’s house surrounded by her siblings and children. Vanessa always celebrated birthdays and accomplishments and was proud of her boys. Vanessa is preceded in death by her father, Ernesto Chapa, and sister, Veronica Chapa. She is survived by her mom, Maria Garza of Alamo, sons, Rafael Fabian Mendez (Victoria), Michael Angelo Mendez, and Kevin Andres Mendez, grandson, Adiel Raphael Mendez, sister, Mayla Chapa, brothers, Alonzo Chapa (Yesenia Reyna), Ernesto Chapa (Juan Villarreal), Henry Chapa, Marcos Chapa, and Byron Garza, all of Edinburg, and numerous nephews and nieces. Visitation will be Friday, September 17th, 10 am-9 pm. A celebration of life will begin at 10 am, Saturday, September 18th, at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco, followed by burial at 11 am at Sacred Park Cemetery in Mercedes. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions to the funeral service as it was very unexpected. An obituary will follow.
