Carmen Medrano

November 1, 1927 — February 4, 2021

Weslaco: Carmen Medrano, 93, passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2021, at Amara Hospice in Edinburg,Tx surrounded by her children. Carmen was born on November 1, 1927, to Guadalupe and Barbarita Aguirre in Houston, Texas.

She and her seven siblings moved to Weslaco after the untimely death of their father. They were raised in Weslaco by their mom and step-father, Miguel Ramirez. Carmen met her soulmate, Nicolas Medrano, when they were both young children. They were married in 1945 and had nine children.

Carmen was a model homemaker, loving, caring, and nurturing. Carmen was also a very hard worker. She and Nicolas worked as migrants in their early married years. While Carmen was raising all of her children, she still managed to hold down a full-time job. Many people will remember Carmen for her dedication to Weslaco ISD, where she committed twenty-eight years of service in the custodial department.

Carmen always kept busy and didn’t take much time for herself. When she found time to relax, she was still serving others; crocheting blankets for her family and friends was her favorite pastime. Carmen also loved keeping her mind active and enjoyed her daily word search puzzles. Carmen loved to cook, and when her children and grandchildren came to visit, she would greet them with a delicious meal, no matter what hour of the day or night. Her tamales were a welcome staple, especially at Christmas time. As busy as life was, Carmen managed to make it to the beauty shop every Saturday and always kept herself looking beautiful and kept together.

Carmen was a devout Catholic and had a servant attitude. Her home was a welcoming place of comfort for all of her family and friends. She was relentless in her effort to help others in need, whether it was her children, grandchildren, family, or friends.

Carmen is preceded in death by her parents, Guadalupe Aguirre and Barbarita Lugo Ramirez, step-father, Miguel Ramirez, loving husband, Nicolas Medrano, children, Tiburcio Medrano, Paula Medrano, and Jesusa Medrano, great-grandchildren, Keileigh Andrea Villarreal, Austin Ryan DeNeale, and Avery Carreon, siblings, Martin Aguirre, Juan L.
