November 7, 1927 — November 24, 2017

WESLACO - Elizabeth Jean Brumley Compere loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 24, 2017. The family was able to get together to celebrate her 90th birthday two weeks before she passed away. 1 Corinthians 2:9 Eye has not seen nor ear heard, neither has it entered into the heart of man the things God hath prepared for them that love Him. Elizabeth was born on November 7, 1927, to Ethel Mae and Walter Clark Brumley at their home. Her family moved to Edinburg Texas from Checotah Oklahoma. Elizabeth grew up loving school and church activities and was the 1st Drum Majorette for the Edinburg Bobcats. In 1945 Elizabeth went to Edinburg Junior College which is now UTRGV where she met Bob who had just gotten out of the Air Force. Bob had grown up in Weslaco which was founded by his grandparents in 1919. His parents had the first wedding in the new town of Weslaco. His grandparents gave land on 6th street to the churches so they would have a Christian community where people could worship. After graduating Edinburg Junior College they both went to the University of Texas in Austin and married on June 23, 1948. Bob graduated from the University of Texas the following year. They came back to the valley in the summer of 1949 after having a baby girl in July and moved to Elsa. In 1954 they moved to McAllen with their two daughters, Jan and Pat and then had two more girls, Sue and Lyn. Bob then started an independent insurance company in Pharr Texas and stayed there until he retired. He passed away on July 21, 2006. Elizabeth's greatest passion in her life was her love for the Lord and loving others like the Lord loved them. She loved taking care of the grandchildren whenever she could. She could make anyone feel welcome in their home and could always have one more to serve for the family meals. She will always be remembered for the beautiful smile that radiated the Lord's love to everyone. She was very involved in St. Mark's Methodist Church and led bible studies and women's groups. She loved giving book reviews whenever she was asked. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob and their daughter Elizabeth Lyn and her brother Darrell Brumley, Lucile Brumley and their son Richard. Also preceding her in death are her brother in laws John Compere, Ed Compere and Bill Knepper and her sister in law Johnnie Compere.
