Everardo Ricardo Arredondo

February 9, 1939 — August 21, 2021

Weslaco-Everardo Ricardo Arredondo “Richie,” 82, passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. On February 9, 1939, Richie was born to Teofilo Arredondo and Rosa Villarreal Arredondo in Mexico, one of ten children. The family moved to Weslaco when Everardo was a young boy, and he attended elementary school in Weslaco.

Richie met his soulmate, Guadalupe Villarreal “Lupe,” at a dance hall when they were young adults. They were married through the Catholic church in 1963 and raised their family in Weslaco. Richie went to work as a truck driver so that Lupe could stay home and care for their children. Richie was dedicated to his chosen profession and worked countless hours hauling onions, watermelons, carrots, sugarcane, tomatoes, and anything else all over the country to provide for his family.

When Richie wasn’t working, he loved watching sports. His favorite was boxing, but anything would do, football, baseball, basketball, soccer, or tennis. He also loved watching wheel of a fortune and John Wayne westerns. Richie could brighten up any room. He always had a joke to tell and kept his family and friends laughing during their many gatherings.

Family and faith were the most important treasures to Richie. He looked forward to meals surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

Everardo “Richie” is preceded in death by his parents, Teofilo and Rosa Arredondo, brothers, Erasmo Arredondo, Antonio Arredondo, Ervey Arredondo, sisters, Rosa Moncevias, Maria Arredondo, Leonor Hernandez, and Elia Aguirre.

He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Guadalupe “Lupe” Arredondo, children, Ezequiel Saenz Jr. (Sylvia), Ricardo Arredondo Jr. (Elaine), Rosa Marquez (Rene), Rene Arredondo (Martina), and Roel Arredondo, all of Weslaco, grandchildren, Amy Saenz-Smith (Trey), Julissa Saenz-Feeney (Patrick), Karina Marquez-Vasquez (Andrew), Rene Marquez Jr. (Anahi Robles), Marcos Marquez, Ricardo Arredondo III (Paige), great-grandchildren, Madeline Smith, Isabella Smith, Nicole Feeney, Brooke Feeney, Emma Ray Arredondo, Violet Arredondo, and Delia Rose Arredondo, brother, Omar Arredondo (Susie) of Weslaco, sister, Enedelia Sanchez (Juan) of Weslaco, and numerous nieces and nephews.
