Florida Camero

December 25, 1960 — February 19, 2017

WESLACO - Florida Camero passed away on Sunday, February 19th, 2017 at her residence in Weslaco. Florida was born on Christmas Day in Weslaco, Texas to Filemon and Julia Cuellar. She was the youngest of five children. When she was very young, she met her future husband and soulmate, Faustino Jr. He spotted her as she rode the bus back and forth to middle school, but she was a few years younger, so he waited patiently. Finally, Faustino's waiting was over and he married the love of his life on October 20, 1978, 2 months before her 18th birthday. They had a big church wedding with all of their friends and family in attendance. They would settle in Weslaco for a while and Faustino would support the family so Florida took care of the home and children. They had three children, Esteban Jesus, Mary Ellen, and Alyssa Jo. Faustino worked for the Border Patrol and the family moved frequently and Florida was always a supportive wife. They lived in El Paso, Georgia and made their way back to Weslaco in 1997, where they built their home. Florida loved gardening, knitting and volunteering. She volunteered at Knapp Medical Center for several years. She passionately loved her dogs, Shadow, Pearl, Daisy, and Buttercup. Most of all, she was a beautiful mother, grandmother, and wife. Faustino and Florida were able to enjoy traveling. Some of their favorite destination spots included Florida, Cancun and Las Vegas. Florida was always lucky in Vegas. Faustino was planning a 40th anniversary trip to Cancun. Florida will be remembered as a compassionate, loving and caring person. She is preceded in death by her father, Filemon Cuellar. Florida is survived by her loving husband, Faustino Jr., her mother, Julia Cuellar, her son, Esteban Jesus, her daughters, Mary Ellen Camero, Alyssa Jo Cantu (Cayetano), of Weslao, grandchildren, Alexis Marie Coash, Sofia Marie Budde, Nickolai and Alexander Cantu, Juan Diego, Frida, Estbani, and Skylar Gavin Camero, her brother, Filemon Cuellar Jr. (Martha ) of Minnesota, sisters, Normali Villarreal, and Maricela Salinas (William ), of Weslaco, and Noelia Sacriste of San Antonio. Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 3:00-9:00 p.m., with a rosary at 7:00 p.m at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 24th, 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Weslaco with burial to follow at Weslaco City Cemetery.
