Geraldine Wegner Thatcher

February 28, 1959 — June 1, 2017

WESLACO - Geraldine Wegner Thatcher, 58, passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at her residence in Weslaco. "Gerri" was born in Wayzata, MN in 1959. She graduated from Lincoln high school in Bloomington, MN. She studied nursing at Winona State University and was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. After practicing as a nurse in La Crosse, WI and Pocatello, ID she trained with a full scholarship to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN where she completed her studies in 1990. She then moved to Lansing, MI where she was a CRNA at Sparrow Hospital for (22) years, specializing in labor and delivery, where she brought joy to the many families and new lives she touched. Nicknamed "Gigi," She had a luminous, beautiful smile, loved dancing, her children, her many friends, babies, and traveling much of the world. Each day for her and those near was a celebration of the best things life has to offer. She believed: "The LOVE you give away is the only LOVE you keep." After being diagnosed with ALS, she retired, eventually moving to Texas to be close to the support of family. Always a model of strength and courage, her last wishes were to enter Heaven surrounded by loved ones. Those who knew her know it will be a brighter place with her presence. She is survived by her loving husband, Timothy T Thatcher, daughter Samantha (Jarrod) Mize, son Andrew Fritz, parents Dick and Jean Wegner, brothers Thomas Wegner and Richard (Evelyn) Wegner, stepchildren Teressa (Trevor) Thatcher Davidoski, Timothy T (Alexia) Thatcher, grandchildren Declan, London, Benjamin, and Lochlan, many nieces and nephews as well as friends and caregivers who brought her comfort and joy including Tami Bridson, Iliana Guerra, Mary Cuevas, and Sister Maxine.
