Mercedes- Gilberta Lozoya, 90, passed away on Saturday, November 26th, 2016. She was born on March 16, 1926, to Encarnacion Lozoya and Petra Tomelloso in Mercedes, Texas. She married Manuel Moren and would have nine children. He died at a young age and Gilberta would raise all of the children as a single mom. They lived in Mexico when the children were young and Gilberta would travel back and forth to support the family, cleaning houses, working in the field, long hard hours. She did bring the kids to Mercedes when they were young teens and they would all pitch in to support their large family. Gilberta is preceded in death by her parents, Encarcion and Petra Lozoya, her husband, Manuel Moren, three children, Guadalupe Cruz, Pedro Moreno, and Emilia Moreno, and great grandchild, Ramon Lorenzo Cruz. Gilberta is survived by her children, Petra Martinez (David) of Mercedes, Maria Torres (Leopoldo) of San Benito , Santo Rivera (Jose Luis) of Mercedes, Martin Hernandez (Nora Garcia) of Mercedes, and Maria Jesus Castellanos (Sergio Garza ) of Mercedes, and Amado Moreno (Francisca) of Mercedes, 41 grandchildren, 95 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces. Gilberta will be remembered as a loving mom and grandmother, and a hard worker. She was a great cook and she loved "Loteria". She always had a cup of coffee, even on in her last days. Visitation will be held on Monday, from 10am-9pm, with a rosary at McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel. A mass will be held at McCaleb Chapel on Tuesday at 1pm, with burial to follow at Sacred Park Cemetery in Mercedes.
