    Hector Rafael Ybarra

    May 25, 1954 - August 10, 2020

Edcouch- Hector Rafael Ybarra, 66, passed away on Monday, August 10th, 2020, at his home in Edcouch. He was born on May 25th, 1954, to Agapito Ybarra and Ninfa Morales Ybarra in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He grew up in Elsa. When Hector was seventeen, he met Aida Zarate at a dance hall and it was love at first sight. After only two weeks, and two dates, they eloped and enjoyed forty seven years of marriage, cut short by Aida’s untimely death. Hector went to work for the Edcouch School District in the maintenance department and spent the rest of his career working in the district. He was a genuine Yellow Jacket and very popular in the area. Hector was a dedicated employee and rarely missed work. He loved his job and the community in which he served. Hector was a diehard Houston Texans and Houston Astros fan and never missed a game. He enjoyed great food and loved to gamble. Hector will mostly be remembered for his sense of humor and the ability to light up any room. He had a heart of gold and was always humble and kind. The children fondly remember that Hector had a “judge free zone.” He was accepting and gracious, no matter what the situation. Hector is preceded in death by his parents, Agapito and Ninfa Ybarra, his loving wife of forty-seven years, Aida, and brothers, Juan Jose and Leonel Ybarra. He is survived by his children, Hector R Ybarra Jr. (Roxanne), Rosendo “Chendo” Ybarra (Yvonne), Concepcion “Chon” Hernandez (Alicia), Roxanne Ybarra (Jesse), all of Edcouch/Elsa area, Janisse Cisneros (Thomas) of Mission, brothers, Agapito Ybarra Jr. (Janie) of Alvin, Heriberto Ybarra (Julia) of Weslaco, Gustavo Ybarra of Santa Rosa, Enrique Ybarra (Lupita) of Weslaco, and sister, Sonia Ybarra of Elsa. Visitation will be Sunday, August 16th, 2020, from 2-9 pm, with a rosary at 7 pm. Graveside service will be Monday, August 17th, 2020, at 11 am, at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.
