July 16, 1952 - June 29, 2021
RIO GRANDE CITY - H. Glenn Oliver III was born in Harford, Maryland, on July 16, 1952. He was the oldest son of Glenn Oliver, Jr and Lois Ann Newberry Oliver. He died on June 29th at El Peyote Ranch, north of Rio Grande City, Texas. Glenn was quite a colorful character and a hunter extraordinaire. He personified the word ‘Independent’. He was an old fashioned person, doing business on a handshake. Over the years, he worked in several professions, but he was happiest when outdoors, working with the game animals he was so proud of. A self-taught gunsmith, Glenn had a passion for guns and created world-class rifles for enthusiasts all over the world. As a son, he cared for his father (known throughout Weslaco as ‘The Cat Man’ because of his pet Mountain Lion) through years of declining health. Two brothers, Patrick and David, preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister, Susan. As the husband of two wives, he was a widower of two marriages. He is survived by one daughter, Tiffany Oliver Leigh, currently residing in New Mexico, and two grandchildren. If you ever met Glenn, you would never forget him. He would leave you with a head-shaking smile and a tale to remember. Don’t feel bad for Glenn; he and Travis are out hunting and shootin’ the breeze. In lieu of flowers please send contributions to the American Cancer Society or the animal preservation organization of your choice. There will be a send off for Glenn Oliver III on Saturday, July 10th after dusk at the Bradford Farm located on Mile 1 East and the Military Highway, south of Mercedes, TX. Bring lawn chairs to watch Glenn be sent off with a fireworks display.
