    Jose Gustavo Garay Jr.

    June 5, 1980 - April 29, 2021

MERCEDES - Jose Gustavo Garay Jr., 40, passed away on Thursday, April 29th, 2021 at Harlingen Medical Center. Jose Garay was the definition of a hardworking man. He has four beautiful children, an amazing wife, as well as one grandson he loved very much. Jose will always be remembered for his sense of humor, his outgoing personality, and his educated, open mind. He loved to read and listen to audio books. He was always opened to learning new things every day. He was the life of the party and always had something to say with his wise words of advice. In his free time, he loved to play league of legends, investing in stocks, talking about politics, and he was a die-hard Cowboys fan. If he wasn't watching football, he was spending quality time with his family having cookouts. His main focus and plan this year were getting his weight loss surgery. He was really looking toward doing more physical things with his family that he wasn’t able to do years before such as fishing. He loved to fish and would always talk about going fishing and other little things with his family. He is survived by his wife Pearl Garza, his parents Elvia Rivas and Jose Gustavo Garay Jr., grandmother Maria Natividad Rivas, his children Nathaniel Alfredo Valdez, Shantel Jolee Garay, Jayvanti Jalien Garay, Jocelyn Garay and grandson Tobias Alexander Valdez, his siblings Juan Carlos Garay and Erika Rivas, his half-siblings Irene Noriega, Rene Garay, Gabriel Garay and Roger Garay. He is preceded in death by his grandfather Domingo Rivas. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, May 5, 2021 from 3pm to 9pm with a 7pm Rosary at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco.
