Mable Lowdema Hanks

September 9, 1925 — May 17, 2022

Weslaco: Mable Lowdema Hanks, 96, passed away on Tuesday, May 17th, 2022, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. On September 9th, 1925, Mable was born to William and Annie Alexander in Antlers, Oklahoma. Mable married Jack Hanks, and they raised five children in Weslaco, Texas.

Mable worked at Dickie’s as a seamstress for many years until moving to Weslaco ISD. Mable retired after serving in the cafeteria for Weslaco students for nearly seventeen years.

Mable loved gardening and spending time outdoors. Although she worked full time, Mable was a great homemaker, and everyone enjoyed her cooking. Mable always cooked enough to serve a crowd, and many of the children, grandchildren, and their friends would make it a point to stop by her home and enjoy some lunch, banana bread, banana pudding, beans, cornbread, or whatever was on the menu.

Mable was a wonderful mom, full of love and life. Mable was devoted to her children and even more affectionate to her grandchildren. Most importantly, she was a God-fearing Christian woman, praying often and thanking God for His many blessings, even in times of trials. Mable was a faithful member of the Mid Valley Assembly of God for over thirty years.

Mable is preceded in death by her loving husband of seventy years, Jack, son, Jackie Hanks, grandson, Rickey Lee Rowlett, and great-grandson, Luke Montgomery.

She is survived by her daughters, Billie Daly of Weslaco, Sue Flynn of Mercedes, Viola Chambers (Jerry) of Dickenson, son, Albert Hanks (Patty), of Weslaco, and numerous grandchildren, nephews, and nieces.

On Saturday, May 21st, visitation will begin at 9 am. At 10 am, Rev. Mario Perez and his wife, Ruth, will lead the celebration of life for Sister Hanks at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco. Burial will follow at 11 am at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.
