Marilyn Mae McIndoo

July 26, 1941 — August 9, 2022

Weslaco-Marilyn Mae McIndoo passed away on Tuesday, August 9, at The Comfort House in McAllen. Marilyn was born on July 26, 1941, to Ransome and Florence (Palar) Goodrich in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She met Doug McIndoo at a church function when they were just teenagers. A fitting meeting, as Doug and Marilyn knew keeping God first was essential. The couple was married on October 25, 1963. Marilyn was ambitious and wanted to use her gifts to serve others, but she also wanted to stay home with her three children. So, she opened a daycare out of their home while the kids were young. Once Marilyn and Doug’s kids were in school, she worked full-time as an administrative assistant in the financial services industry.

After retiring, Marilyn and Doug started wintering in Weslaco in 2001. They made it their permanent home soon after. Doug and Marilyn immediately joined the First Baptist Church, where Marilyn’s commitment to serving the Lord was evident. Marilyn and Doug volunteered at every opportunity. They worked the Fall Festival and Vacation Bible School, and Marilyn was always willing to help with a meal. Marilyn loved working at First Baptist Church Food Pantry and quilting for others. In addition, she attended Ladies Bible Study and was a prayer warrior.

Besides volunteering at the church, Marilyn sewed baby blankets and pillowcases for the Ronald McDonald House and the Birthing Center. She also volunteered at the local high schools.

Marilyn loved her children; her grandchildren and great-granddaughter were her pride and joy. Marilyn spent as much time as possible with them, leading by example about what it means to love genuinely. She also made each of them a quilt as a graduation gift.

Marilyn was the epitome of community service. She witnessed Christ to others through her acts of kindness and commitment to her Lord and Savior. In addition, Marilyn was a breast cancer survivor, again witnessing to others with her positive attitude and unwavering faith.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, Ransome and Florence Goodrich, brother Robert Goodrich, sister Kathryn Johnson, and great-granddaughter Avery Kay Hanson.

Marilyn is survived by her loving husband, Doug, daughters, Kris Citarella (Daniel), Susan Harford (Jeffrey), son, Steve McIndoo (Michelle), all of Minnesota, sister, Laurel Oestriech of Illinois, grandchildren, Heather Hanson (Jake), Michelle Alessio (Andy), Mathew Harford (Jo), Tyler McIndoo, Brian Citarella (Whitney), Abigail Harford, Erin McIndoo, Nicole Harford, and Will McIndoo, great-granddaughter, Raelynn Hanson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be Friday, August 26, at 10 am, at First Baptist Church in Weslaco, officiated by Dr. Rev. Steven Parker.
