Weslaco- Olivia Moreno, 85, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 1, 2020. She was born on September 16, 1934, to Carlos Canales and Isidra Lozano Canales in Salineno, Texas.
Olivia married Jose Angel Moreno, and they raised five children together in Weslaco.
Olivia was a devout Catholic and a woman of tremendous faith. She was very religious and prayed the rosary daily, along with other prayers.
Olivia was also a very hard working woman. She spent most of her career working as a cook for the Texas Migrant Council. When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed making crafts, dolls, and sewing. Olvia loved getting dressed up and taking care of herself.
Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family. She and her siblings always remained very close. “Welas” children and grandchildren were her world. She loved to cook for the whole family. Olivia was friendly, helpful, and kind, full of love and generosity.
Olivia is preceded in death by her parents, Carlos and Isidra Canales, sons, Daniel Moreno and Roel “Roy” Moreno.
She is survived by her husband, Jose Angel, son, Carlos Victor Moreno (Carol) of Donna, daughters, Lydia Estela Cantu (Jorge) of Donna, Angie Espericueta (Angel) of Edinburg, daughter in law, Elena Moreno, grandchildren, Daniel Moreno (Terry), Roel Moreno Jr., Roxanne Garcia (Joel), Zetha Golden, Carlos Moreno Jr. (Janie), Cristina Maria Hernandez (Miguel Medina), Christopher Moreno (Vanessa), Corey Angel Moreno (Vanessa), Caitlin Cheyanne Moreno, Jorge Cantu Jr., Sasha Jones (Daniel), Charles Cantu, great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Ashley, and Nathaniel Moreno, Caleb, Ethan Blaze, and Serenity, Acen Golden, Aiden, and Lexi Moreno, Jase, Jose Manuel, Hazel Jeanette Hernandez, Aubrey, and Miguel Medina, Nathan and Nayla Alegria, and Jolene Jones, Anthony, Norma, and Alexandria Garcia.
Visitation will be Monday, July 6th, 10 am-9 pm, with a Holy Rosary at 7 pm, at McCaleb Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 7th, 11 am, at McCaleb Funeral Home, followed by a burial at Highland Memorial Park.
