Owida M. Ford

September 2, 1933 — May 6, 2020

Weslaco- Owida Myrl Ford, 87, passed away at her home, John Knox Village, on Wednesday, May 6, 2020. Owida was born on September 28, 1932, in Weldon, Texas, to Mattie Dell Rosamond. Owida was a proud member of the Weldon community where she grew up. She was also quite driven, graduating from Lovelady High School at the age of sixteen. Owida continued her education, attending business school in Houston. She was a strong, independent, and feisty woman.

Owida married Mack Ford of Baytown in 1956 and was a faithful, loving, and devoted wife for forty-five years until his death in 2001. She and Mack raised their only son, Cleve, in Baytown, Texas. They were faithful members of Wooster Baptist Church. Owida served in the nursery and taught Sunday School. She was a devoted Christian and loved her Savior, Jesus Christ, and wanted others to know Him!

Owida spent her career working for the Measurement Department at Transco (now Williams Company). She retired after thirty-six years of service and was so proud of her career choice, where she received many accolades throughout her career. Owida juggled work and home life and loved being a working woman.

She loved playing dominoes and bingo and was always up “to take chances” on any raffle! She was lucky in life and love. She loved to laugh, listening to old country music, and spending time with family and friends.
In her retired life, Owida moved to her family homestead in Weldon, Texas. She loved spending time pond fishing and entertaining friends and family. Owida also worshipped at the Weldon Baptist Church and continued sharing the joy of Jesus Christ.

Owida served her community as President of the Weldon Cemetery Association and through the Weldon Civics Club, where she was able to work alongside some of her dearest friends. She made friends everywhere she went. Owida was so proud to maintain friendships from all over. She loved to vacation across the globe with family and friends.

Owida’s favorite splurge was candy and Dr. Pepper, which will forever remind us of her.

Owida is preceded in death by her faithful husband, Mack Ford, mother, Mattie Dell Dunn, and numerous other cousins and friends, who were as close as family.

She is survived by her loving son, Cleve (Miriam) Ford, grandchildren, Cooper, Lily, Cora, and Ella Ford, all of Weslaco, Texas, first cousins, Cleo (Judy) Tarver of Conroe, Texas, and Pat (John) Hinson of Crockett, Texas.

A private graveside service will be held with interment to follow at the Weldon Cemetery. Dr. Steven K. Parker will be officiating. Pallbearers are, Paul Craycraft, Cleo Tarver, Cooper Ford, Stanley Whalen, and Sam Whalen. Honorary Pallbearer John Hinson.

In lieu of flowers, tributes may be made to the Weldon Cemetery Association, Weldon Cemetery c/o Yvonne Otis, 5928 CR 3555, Lovelady, Texas 75851.
