Ramon Olague

September 7, 1929 — December 16, 2017

Weslaco-Ramon G Olague, 88, passed away on Saturday, December 16th, 2017 at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. He was born on September 7, 1929, to Jose and Damiana Olague in Hermita Guadalupe, Zacatecas. Ramon married the love of his life, Eloisa, in his early twenties and they enjoyed 56 years of marriage. They raised their three children, Rosie, Marcela Linda, and Raymond John in Weslaco, where they were faithful parishioners at St Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Many will remember Ramon for his dedicated service to the City of Weslaco, working for Weslaco ISD nearly 20 years and then the City of Weslaco for another 20 years, where he retired. Ramon was most known for his love and passion for gardening. He spent countless hours in his yard and learned to revive just about any plant you could name. His beautiful yard always colored with the flower that was in season and he could grow the most beautiful roses in town. He was famous for reviving tulips and he had a special method of fertilizing his yard and his plants. He was sought after for his knowledge of plants as he had tried and perfected many methods for growing healthy and fruitful trees. Ramon's yard was chosen "yard of the month" numerous times and when he was not chosen, he just worked harder. He was even known to cut his grass with scissors, true dedication. Ramon and Eloisa enjoyed many years of traveling to Mexico and California. Ramon is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Eloisa and his son, Raymond John Olague. He is survived by his daughter, Rosario Cantu (Santiago) of La Blanca, Marcela Linda Martinez of Weslaco, grandchildren, Dixie Elizondo (Frank) of McAllen, Loni Adrianna Fife (Steve) of Phoenix, AZ, Santiago Cantu Jr. of La Blanca, Crystal Cantu Tamez (Adolfo) of La Blanca, Mona-Elo Martinez of Weslaco, Kathlyn Rose Cantu of Portland, OR, great-grandchildren, Isaiah Tamez, Sadie, Tristan, Logan, and his provider, Rosa Elia Sanchez, who the family would like to offer special thanks for her 21 years of dedicated service to Ramon. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 19th, from 3-9pm, with a rosary at 7 pm. A mass will be held on Wednesday, December 20th, at 10 am, with Father Francisco Solis officiating, burial to follow at Highland Memorial Park.
