Robert Wesley Welz Jr.

November 4, 1937 — July 3, 2022

WESLACO - Robert Wesley Welz, Jr. was born in Houston, TX, to Vivian (Attaway) Welz and Robert Wesley Welz on November 4, 1937. He was called by the Lord on July 3, 2022, to ‘Join the ransomed of the Lord, and return, and come to Zion with singing and with everlasting joy on his head, where he shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away’ ~ Isaiah 51:11.

Bob discovered music early in life. By the time he was 8 years old, he was singing solos on Sunday morning in church services. He began playing the saxophone in Jr. High School and was part of the State Champion Marching High School Band, of Austin High School, Houston, Texas. He went to college on a music scholarship. While in college, he wanted to broaden his music knowledge and taught himself to play the piano, which became his primary instrument.

After graduating from Florida State University, he served in the Navy on the USS Shangri-La. After discharge, he joined The Wall Street Journal, in Houston. However, music continued to call him and he left that job to join Ringling Bros. & Barnum Bailey Circus as their first singing Ringmaster. He worked many years in various Circuses, including Circus Circus, in Las Vegas. He also worked in several Ice Shows as a skating juggler, and singer. After leaving Circuses and Ice Shows, he toured Europe and Asia as a singer and pianist. He ended that career at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, on Waikiki, playing on the beach as the sunset. After that career, he worked for the Post Office in Colorado before retiring.

He moved to John Know Village in 2018, where he loved to play the piano in the Health Center, and before lunch on Fridays, as well as for the Chapel Services, on Sunday Mornings. He also played the piano for the Love Of Christ Lutheran Church.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Bob & Vivian Welz, his sister, Barbara Welz, and his great-nephew Bobby Alexandre. He is survived by his sister, Nancy Welz Aldrich, his nephew, Chris Alexandre, his niece Dawn Meyer, his great-nephew, Gavin Meyer, and great, great nephew River Meyer.

Let me tell you this: Death is a Myth! No one actually dies, we simply change from one life to another ~ but we continue to live! How, and where, we live is our decision. My decision is to live in Heaven with Jesus, and I pray that is your decision, also. Death is an ugly word that the people we leave behind use to help them deal with our change from this life to the next. Never doubt that you will continue to live! If you are a Christian, you will live in a place more beautiful, joyous, wonderful, peaceful, glorious, and awesome than you can ever imagine. All that is waiting for us, if just for believing that Jesus lived, died, came back to life, and is living in Heaven with His Father. He said He wants us to come and live with Him. That is where I will be in not too much longer, and that is where I want you to be. - BY NANCY WELZ ALDRICH
