Alamo: Ronald "Ronnie" Lee Kochert, 84, passed away at his home on Saturday, November 28, 2020. Ronnie was born on April 22, 1936, to Elmer Kochert Sr. and Anna Mertens Kochert. Ronnie grew up in Alamo with nine siblings. His parents were local farmers, and Ronnie learned the value of hard work at a young age. He attended Catholic school in Alamo during elementary and graduating from Donna High School. Ronnie attended Pan American University and went to work for the Texas Highway Department as an engineering technician.

He met Charlotte Hedges, and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past August. Ronnie and his wife raised four daughters.

Ronnie enjoyed his job and surveyed countless roads in the Rio Grande Valley including Expressway 83 from Brownsville to Rio Grande City. He retired after nearly thirty years of service. He also served in the Naval Reserves for eight years. He was very patriotic and loved our great country.

Ronnie enjoyed hunting and was a sportsman at heart. In his free time, he enjoyed maintaining the families property that he grew up on. With his knowledge of building and carpentry, Ronnie built his family a beautiful three-bedroom home. Though it took several years, he never grew weary or complained but thoroughly enjoyed the challenge. During his downtime, he loved to watch sports and old westerns. After thirty years of service, Ronnie retired from the Texas Highway Department. He and Charlotte enjoyed traveling and spending time with their 4 daughters and their families. One of his favorite things to do was to cheer on is grandchildren at their various sporting events all over Texas. Ronnie was always patient, understanding, kind-hearted, and had unwavering faith.
