WESLACO - Stan Luhman passed away April 26 at John Knox Village in Weslaco, TX. Stan was born August 2, 1938, to Kathryn and Bernard Luhman in Howard Lake, Minnesota. He was baptized at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake. He graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1956. Stan married Ada McCalla in 1958, and they were blessed with four children – three sons and one daughter. Stan married Mary Kennedy Benson in 1968. Stan married Rose Sittig Nickelson in 2004. Stan first worked for Minnesota Valley Breeders Association in Brownton, MN. He moved to Fridley, MN, where he worked in residential construction for many years. Stan co-owned a residential construction company, and built many homes around Maple Grove, MN. He was a real estate agent for Edina Realty in the Twin Cities in the 1980s and 1990s. In retirement, Stan kept doing what he loved most – woodworking, golfing, telling jokes, playing cards, and cheering for the Vikings. His latest wood craft was Intarsia, where he made many beautiful pieces for family and friends. Stan lived in many places and made many, many friends. He lived in Howard Lake, Brownton, Fridley, Maple Grove, Clearwater, Alamo, TX, and most recently in John Knox Village, in Weslaco, TX. Stan is survived by his wife, Rose; children Scott, Tim (Joleen), Dan (fiancee Kelly), and Brenda Zackrison (Tim); step-children Doug Benson (Kathy), Terry Benson, Rick Benson, Tim Nickelson, Theresa Goldsmith (Bill), Steve Nickelson (Suzanne), Doug Nickelson, and Maggi Anderson (Derek); grandchildren Courtney, Tyler, Jordan, Haley, Molly, Cora, Brady, Alexandra, Sheila, Cheryl, Kaylee, Joe, Nick, Aaron, Aubrey, and Emma; great-grandchildren Calix, Paxon, Mason, Feliza, Ava, Vito, and Zion; sisters Elaine Stueven and Sandy Engel; brother David Luhman (Connie); and many nieces and nephews. Stan was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Kathryn Luhman; sister Betty Carlson; granddaughter Lindsey Luhman; and stepson Kenny Benson. A memorial service is being planned in Minnesota at a later date.
