Weslaco: Teresa Guadalupe Abrigo, 81, passed away at her home on Saturday, January 16, 2021. On August 11, 1939, she was born to Antonio Barrera and Teresa Castillo Barerra in San Marcos, Texas. Teresa was the youngest of five children and grew up in Kyle, Texas. While attending San Marcos High School, Teresa was an active softball player for the San Marcos Pioneers League. Teresa earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business from Austin Community College. Teresa worked at a furniture store in San Marcos, and Pedro “Pete” Abrigo lived at an apartment upstairs. They were married on December 26, 1965, and moved to Weslaco to start their family. Teresa went to work for Weslaco ISD in the business office, where she would spend her entire career until retiring in 2005. Teresa loved her job and only retired to care for her husband. Teresa and Pete were very active in their church community. They were faithful members of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Weslaco and volunteered much of their free time to grow the church. Teresa and Pete hosted Christmas Posadas at their home for many years and many other social gatherings. Teresa loved to cook and bake for her family and friends and host them for meals. Teresa leaves a legacy for her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews of love, faith, strength, and hope. Teresa is preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Teresa Barrera, her loving husband and soulmate, Pedro “Pete” Abrigo Sr., siblings, Beto Barrera, Alejandro “Alex” Barrera, Gloria Ramirez, and Bobby Barrera.
