Tommie Jean Brixey

Tommie Jean Brixey, 82, passed away at her home on May 29, 2021. Tommie was born on November 30, 1938. She was the daughter of the late Barney and Sibyle (Davidson) Brixey and raised in Weslaco.

She graduated from Weslaco High School in 1956. She was active in 4H winning numerous awards for her talent in design and fashion. She was elected at 12 years old to model for a 4H club Style Show and to ride on the parade float. In 1957 she became the Cover Girl for the annual Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show.

After graduating, she became a military wife for 22 years. During this time she traveled to several countries including Japan, England, Libya, and the Azores. Her last trip was with family in 2016 to Ireland.

Tommie was an entrepreneur and owned orchards and a citrus packaging company. In 1991 she purchased La Floresta RV Park and Golf Course. She worked hard to restore it and make it into the beautiful park it is today. She loved owning and managing La Floresta, staying active until her passing. Tommie loved exotic birds, especially peacocks which she raised. The peacocks can still be seen and heard in the park.

Tommie was a multi talented and accomplished artist. Some of the most remarkable were her miniature bread dough sculptures and hand carved eggs of all kinds. Her latest art was rock painting and crocheting. She also had an abundance of peacock feathers to create with too.

Tommie was a vibrant, expressive and animated person. She embraced her God-given talents and worked hard to improve them. She was a strong woman, who worked hard for all that she had and was gracious for the opportunities given her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Barney and Sibyle Brixey, and brother Billy Bob Brixey.

She is survived by her two sons David Martin(Beverly) of Mercedes, Steven Martin (Kimberly) of San Antonio, plus 7 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at La Floresta at a later date.
