All are welcome.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our son and little brother, Aidan Thaddeus Heartfield. Aidan died early the morning of July 4th, 2025, in Hunt, Texas – a place he loved dearly. He packed so much life, love, and adventure into his 22 years. Aidan valued community more than anything and demonstrated that until his last moments on this earth.
Aidan was born on January 11th, 2003, in Beaumont, Texas. He was the beloved son of Melanie and Thad Heartfield and the little brother to three doting sisters, Hannah Grace Heartfield, Claire Heartfield, and Bailey Heartfield. His family’s deep roots in Beaumont grounded him, and his community shaped him into the honest, goofy, and loving young man he was.
As a young boy, Aidan was synonymous with joy in his Beaumont community – he had a signature “bowl cut” until the age of 12, graced many Neches River Festivals with his uninhibited dance moves, and never failed to share his candid observations of the world around him. He always managed to capture the attention of family and friends alike, bringing them closer together. These early years were the perfect indication of Aidan’s gift to the world – the ability to create connections between the people around him.
One community that left an indelible mark on his life was All Saints Episcopal School, which he attended from Kindergarten through the 8th grade. All Saints honed his faith, built a strong foundation for his education, and created friendships that carried him through his 22 years of life. Hardly a day went by without him asking his parents if he could bring a friend (or three) home with him in the carpool line – the answer was always yes. This group of boys became his brothers and were a constant presence in the Heartfield household. They spent weekends in the Texas Hill Country at the Heartfield’s river house, explored the ditches behind their Beaumont backyards, and survived many challenges of learning about the world together.
As a teenager, Aidan attended Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School. During his freshman year, he met the love of his life and girlfriend of 7 years – Ella Rose Cahill. Immediately, Aidan brought her into the Heartfield family and made it clear that she would be an important part of his future. Aidan never shied away from honesty (for better or worse) and always spoke his mind, but Ella helped soften and support him when he needed it the most. She was a steadying, special force and the best decision Aidan could’ve made for himself. From high school onward, Aidan’s goals were straightforward and steadfast – he wanted to build a life and family with Ella.
Part of that goal was choosing schools in the same city after they graduated from High School – Aidan settled on Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. This was the second best decision he could’ve made. From the start, he built strong friendships with some of the kindest, smartest, and hardest-working guys on campus. His pledge class from the Chi Delta Tau fraternity at Trinity became yet another group of brothers he never had. He needed them to weather the challenges of young adult life, and he would brag about them constantly to his sisters and parents. Trinity is just a quick drive away from Hunt, Texas, and Aidan spent many weekends there with his friends and fraternity brothers.
As much as his communities shaped him, so did the outdoors. He loved the natural world and felt most at ease when immersed in it. He grew up exploring the Cattail Marsh, was an avid snowboarder, loved to scuba dive, went fishing in the Gulf of Mexico with his late grandfather, and ran circles around his family on the Tour de Mont Blanc. Aidan earned the rank of Eagle Scout through a wetlands restoration project using plants native to Southeast Texas. He went on a sibling road trip to Big Bend, hiked volcanoes in Guatemala, and completed a 7-day trek at Philmont Scout Ranch with his dad. His closet is littered with hats from all of these destinations, and some of the dearest memories his family holds close are those spent with him on those trips.
What steadies his family in this time of such devastating loss is that Aidan was surrounded by nature, holding people he held dear.
Many are left to cherish Aidan’s memory – he is survived by his parents, Thad and Melanie Heartfield of Beaumont, Texas, and sisters, Hannah Grace Heartfield, Claire Heartfield, and Bailey Heartfield of New York, New York. He is also survived by his paternal grandmother, Cornelia Bozada Heartfield of Beaumont, Texas, and his maternal grandparents, Robert Ashley McAllen and Margaret Looney McAllen of Weslaco, Texas. His loving godmothers, aunts, uncles, and cousins will always keep him close, in addition to the family of Ella Rose Cahill, whom he fondly referred to as his “in-laws.” We would be remiss not to mention Holly, his black Labrador Retriever, who will miss him more than we will ever know.
Aidan’s family is forever grateful for the hundreds of volunteers and first responders who aided in the search, rescue, and recovery following the Guadalupe River Flood. The generosity, unwavering determination, and compassion of those called to help brought so much relief and comfort to families searching for loved ones. “Thank you” doesn’t begin to cover it.
A funeral service for Aidan will be 4:00 p.m., Saturday, July 26, 2025, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 4090 Delaware, Beaumont. His cremation arrangements will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont.
Please make plans to carpool to help with parking availability. Additonal parking will be available at Jamia Masjid on the corner of Delaware and West Lucas Drive.
Memorial contributions in Aidan’s name may be made to the International Esperanza Project (IEP, 3141 Hood Street, Suite 800, Dallas, Texas 75219), All Saints Episcopal School (All Saints Episcopal School, 4108 Delaware Street, Beaumont, Texas 7 7706) or The Trinity University (Trinity University ARD 1 Trinity Place, #49, San Antonio, Texas 78212). Another way to honor Aidan would be to give of your time and talent to a community or non-profit organization that is near and dear to your heart.
