Weslaco- Anita Cásarez Morales, lovingly known as "Nana," passed away on April 13, 2025, in McAllen, Texas, at the age of 64. Born on April 24, 1960, in Mercedes, Texas, Anita lived a life rooted in faith, service, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.
A proud graduate of Weslaco High School, class of 1978. Anita attended Pan American University, earning a B.S. in Criminal Justice. Her education laid the foundation for a lifelong career dedicated to protecting and uplifting children. Anita worked over twenty years as a counselor for the State of Texas Child Protective Services, working tirelessly to advocate for at risk youth. Her compassion and strength left an indelible mark on countless lives throughout her years of service.
Anita’s commitment to others extended beyond her professional life. She was a devoted volunteer with the Special Olympics and cancer outreach programs, giving freely of her time and energy to causes close to her heart. Whether offering support to families or cheering on athletes with boundless enthusiasm, she brought warmth and sincerity to every interaction.
Faith was central to Anita’s life. Alongside her mother, she was an active member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Weslaco and worshipped at the Basilica of the National Shrine of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle. Her spiritual devotion was evident in the values she lived by and lovingly instilled in her daughters.
Anita was preceded in death by her father, J.A. (Tony) Cásarez. She is survived by her beloved mother, Dolores (Loli) Cásarez; her cherished daughters, Jade and Sarah; and her siblings: Mike Cásarez (Julie), Gilbert Cásarez (Cindy), Ed Cásarez (Elvia), Mary Jane de los Santos, Joe Cásarez, and Leonard (Lizeth) Cásarez. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Those who knew Anita will remember her as a woman full of contrasts that made her unforgettable— tenacious yet open-minded, tough yet tender. Her disarming smile could warm even the coldest day, and her infectious laugh had a way of filling any room with joy. She lived authentically and loved deeply.
A rosary is scheduled at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco on Friday, April 25 at 7:00 PM. A Mass celebrating Anita’s life will be held at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Weslaco on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 11:00 AM.
