Antonia Guajardo

January 31, 1927 — January 6, 2022

Mercedes- Antonia Guajardo, 94, passed away at her home in Mercedes, Texas, on Thursday, January 6th, 2022. Antonia was born on January 31st, 1927 to Martin Guajardo and Luz (Alaniz) Guajardo in Mercedes, Texas. Antonia grew up in Mercedes and worked as a migrant and later for McManus produce. She never married, nor did her sister Adelina. They chose instead to be the primary caregivers for their mom. However, they were the favorite aunts and treated their nephews and nieces like their own children.

Antonia was a second mom and grandma to the Villa family, her nieces, nephews, and children. She was a great cook, some of the family favorites were tamales, caldos, and oatmeal, but everything Antonia made was delicious. Antonia loved the outdoors and spent a lot of time working in the yard. She loved to wear pink clothes. That was her favorite color. Antonia was also very close to her sisters, and they spent many afternoons watching novelas together.

Antonia was a devout Catholic and an ideal role model for her siblings, nephews, and nieces, whom she adored. In addition, she was a hard worker, kind-hearted, and would selflessly go above and beyond to care for others.

Antonia is preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Luz Guajardo, brothers, Simon Guajardo, Guadalupe Guajardo, sisters, Victoria Bernal, Paolita Guajardo Perez, Beatriz Guajardo Martinez, Guadalupe Guajardo Villa, and nephew Juan “Tiny” Mercado IV.

Antonia is survived by her brothers, Daniel Guajardo (Joanne), Martin Guajardo (Hilda), and Jesus Guajardo (Consuelo), sister, Adelina Guajardo, and numerous nieces and nephews.
