Weslaco- Consuelo Rodriguez, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025, at the Guadalupe Regional Medical Center in Seguin, Texas. Born on January 20, 1948, in El Cinco Barras, Coahuila, Mexico, Consuelo dedicated her life to bringing joy and warmth to those around her.
Consuelo took great pride in being a single mom to her beautiful daughter for several years. One day, while working at a downtown restaurant in Mercedes, she met her soulmate and soon-to-be father of Maricela, Pilar Rodriguez. Consuelo and Pilar were soon married, and one of their greatest joys was raising their daughter. They lived in Mercedes for many years and later moved to Weslaco, where they enjoyed visiting family in Mexico, spending time with friends, and, most of all, making memories together.
Described as the "best mom ever" and the "world's greatest mom," Consuelo's devotion to her family was unparalleled. Her proudest accomplishments were being a loving mother, wife, and grandmother, roles she embraced with an overflowing heart. She cultivated a nurturing home filled with love, laughter, and her signature spicy barbecue chicken, a dish many will fondly remember as part of family gatherings.
Consuelo was a wonderful mother with an outgoing, friendly spirit who quickly made friends. Her generosity meant that she was often seen lending a helping hand to anyone in need. She took particular joy in her time at the adult daycare center, where she formed cherished friendships and shared wonderful moments dancing and enjoying the great outdoors. She appreciated every opportunity to connect with others.
After becoming a widow twelve years ago, Consuelo deeply missed her companion. She moved to Seguin to be with her daughter and granddaughter for the last years of her life, a time that will be cherished.
Consuelo is preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Socorro (Cedillo) Borjas; her loving husband, Pilar Rodriguez; her brothers, Victor Zamarripa and Teodoro Zamarripa; nieces, Gloria Celestino, Norma Zamarripa, and Veronica Gomez.
She is survived by her daughter, Maricela “Mari” Gomez (Alejandro “Alex”), granddaughter, Ariel Gomez, siblings, Andrea Celestino (Niño), Jose Zamarripa (Juana), Florencio Zamarripa (Juana+), Concepcion Rodriguez (Santiago+), sisters in law, Juana Zamarripa, Oralia Zamarripa, brothers and sister from Saltillo Coahuila, Mexico, and numerous nieces and nephews.
As we celebrate Consuelo's life, let us remember her infectious laughter, love for life, and unwavering kindness that touched so many.
