Delia Mae Reynolds Garrett

July 1, 1925 — October 19, 2021

Delia (Dee Dee) Mae Reynolds Garrett, 96 years old, passed away on October 19, 2021, at John Knox Village. She was born July 1, 1925, in Weslaco, TX, to Monroe and Mary Essie Harris Sheives, the youngest of four children. She grew up in Weslaco. Dee Dee lost her mom, Mary, when she was a young child and grew up quicker than most kids.
Dee Dee met Harold Reynolds when she was a teenager and married him when she was sixteen. They were married fifty-six years and raised their three children in Edinburg. Harold worked around the clock in his construction business to provide for the family. When the children were older, Dee Dee went back to school and earned a degree in nursing. She worked the rest of her career as a nurse, which was her true calling. Dee Dee was a natural nurturer and loved caring for everyone. She worked in hospitals, nursing homes and took private patients. Dee Dee never grew tired of her profession, and it was more like ger hobby.
Dee Dee was a kind, sweet, and beautiful person who always put others first. Her kindred spirit was most noticeable in the way she lit up a room with her smile and a wink of an eye. As a devoted wife, Dee Dee taught us the value of a loving marriage and to place trust in God. She treasured moments with her family, especially her grandchildren. If Dee Dee wasn’t volunteering at her church, First Christian Church of Edinburg, you would find her gardening, sewing, or cooking up something special in the kitchen.
Dee Dee is preceded in death by her parents, Monroe and Mary Essie Harris, husbands, Harold Leroy Reynolds and Amos Garrett, siblings Leonard, Oliver Sheives, Margaret Lookingbill, and stepson Roy Garrett.
Her children survive her, Eddie Reynolds (Martha), James Reynolds (Bettye), Letty Derr (Bobby), caregiver, Ruben Salazar, stepdaughters, Cheryl Ryan (David) and Diana Speaks, grandchildren Jason Reynolds, Reagan Reynolds (Ez), Nicole Karam (David), Jana Efstratis (Teddy), Robbie Reynolds, Ashley Reynolds, and Robyn Lueck (Bill), greatgrandchildren, Natalie Karam, Grant Reynolds, Rowen Reynolds, Clay Lueck, Linzy Lueck.
Visitation will be at McCaleb Funeral home, Weslaco, on October 28 from 6-8 pm. Graveside service will be on October 29 at 10 am at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.
