Donna- Doris Mae Davis, 75, passed away at her home on Monday, July 24th, 2023. Doris was born on January 3rd, 1947, to Warren Harding and Clara (McFarland) Hilton in McAllen, Texas. 

 

Doris grew up in Alamo and graduated from PSJA high school. Doris met Adrian Davis at a college bible study event, and they were married soon after. Adrian joined the US Air Force in 1966, and Doris was at his side as they began their new life together in San Antonio, Texas, where he was stationed at Kelly Air Force Base. After being honorably discharged, Doris and Adrian returned to Donna, Texas, to help with the family farm. 

 

Doris and Adrian raised three boys. Doris went to work for Donna Independent School District. While working in Education and caring for the Davis home, Doris attended Pan-American University. She was determined to earn her Bachelor’s in Education and became a certified teacher. Doris retired from Donna ISD after serving over thirty years. 

 

Doris was a musically inclined talented musician. She mastered the art of piano playing, captivating anyone who heard her play. However, she had a harmonious, soothing, and powerful voice.  

 

Doris was a woman of faith. She let God use her talent by playing piano and singing at the First Baptist Church in Donna for many years. She also used her educational knowledge to teach Sunday School. 

 

Doris also loved to read and had an impressive collection of books. She worked on crossword puzzles and sudoku daily. 

 

Doris was a loving and caring mother. She also instilled a strong sense of discipline and enforced rules in the Davis home. 

 

Doris is preceded in death by her husband of forty-eight years, Adrian Lee Davis, and brother, Edward Hilton. 

 

She is survived by sons Stephen Davis of Inez, Texas,  James M. Davis of Donna, and  Justin Davis of Ozona, Texas; her sisters, Alice Hilton, Beatrice Danner, Ronald Hilton, and Ginnie Rohr (George); step-grandchildren, Victore, “VJ,” Theodore Jacob, Roy Jake, and Zachary Joseph, step-great-grandchildren, Kelly, Melanie, Charlie, Lila, and Logan, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

Visitation will be Monday, July 31st, 4-8 pm. A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, August 1st, at 10 am at McCaleb Funeral Home, followed by burial at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.
