Weslaco- Efrain Wilfredo Aviles, 46, passed away March 26, 2014 at his residence in Weslaco. He was born September 14, 1967 to Dr. Wilfredo Aviles and Corina Flores de Acosta. He served his country with the United States Marines for 4 years and upon his return, went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts in Business. He had been employed as Administrator of Valley Grande Institute in Weslaco for 7 years. Efrain was a parishioner of St. Pius X Catholic Church of Weslaco, a member of the ACTS Retreat at St. Pius X, the Weslaco Pony League Ducks and Bucks for 2 years and the Weslaco Little League. His favorite pastimes included barbequing, cooking and playing tennis. He was a lover of dogs and was also a movie buff. He most enjoyed spending time with his family and his children.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Jose Efrain Aviles and paternal grandmother, Tanita Menjivar de Aviles.
He is survived by his loving wife, Maricarmen Cantu Aviles; his children, Gabriela Marie Aviles, Michael Wilfredo Aviles and Christian Aaron Aviles; his mother, Corina Flores de Acosta; father, Dr. Wilfredo A. and Cristela Valdez; and his siblings, Sandra Cecilia Aviles Gonzales (Tomas), Yvette M. Aviles, David F. Aviles and Jose Armando Aviles.
Additional survivors include his father and mother-in-law, Rogelio and Carmen Cantu; sister-in-law, Anabell Cantu Cardona; brother-in-law, Rogelio “Roy” (Nina) Cantu; and uncles, Hector E. Valdez and Robert A. Valdez.
Visitation will be held today, Friday, March 28, 2014 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco. Visitation will continue from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with a rosary at 7:00 pm at St. Pius X Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Weslaco. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco. Serving as pallbearers will be David F. Aviles, Jesse Garcia, Ray Bogle, Daniel Hernandez, Carlos Tamez and Merardo (Merdoc) de Leon Jr. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be his two sons, Michael Wilfredo Aviles and Christian Aaron Aviles.
