Elizabeth Borjas

January 13, 1938 — February 19, 2021

Our beloved mother, wife, grandmother, and great grandmother Elizabeth R. Borjas, 83 years old, entered Heaven's gates on February 19, 2021, to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Elizabeth was born in Lockhart, Texas, on January 13, 1938, to Nicasio Rios and Maria Hernandez Rios and moved to Donna, Texas, where she was raised with nine siblings.
While attending church services at Iglesia Bautista Las Palmas in Weslaco, she met the love of her life Juan G. Borjas.

After a four-year-long courtship, Elizabeth and Juan married, starting their lives together in Weslaco, where they raised their four children and spent the rest of their lives.

Early in her life, Elizabeth worked as a seamstress at Dickies and later at Haggar Corp until they closed. During the cotton season, Elizabeth and Juan, along with their children, worked hauling cottonseed from the cotton gin to the Mississippi's oil mill. Elizabeth always played a role in the family's successful season. She would drive the truck to give Juan some rest, assure their children's safety and wellbeing, working all hours of the night. Those trips were priceless to Elizabeth. Through sweat and sacrifice, the family made life-long friendships along the way.

Elizabeth was also an avid gardener. You could always find her working on her yard, flower gardens, and beautiful roses from sun up to sundown. She loved to shop at Lowes for the latest plant that caught her eye and to help her learn about how to better care for her beloved plants. To Elizabeth, the most important job she had was spreading the word of God to everyone she met. Elizabeth will always be remembered for the Love of God, her Strong Faith, her willingness to help someone in need, the care and attention she so lovingly gave to her family, and for her beautiful smile.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents Nicasio and Maria Rios, brothers Pablo Rios, Ramiro, Rios, Job Rios, Nicasio Rios, Antonio “Pete” Rios, sisters Soyla Moreno and Maria Reyes.
Elizabeth is survived by her beloved husband of sixty years, Juan G. Borjas, her children Juan C. Borjas (Dora) of Weslaco, Judy Borjas Sanchez (Rene) of McAllen, Alma Elizabeth Pemelton (Terry) of Weslaco, Joel Javier Borjas (Norina) Weslaco, Texas, 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, her brother, Rogelio Rios, wife Elva of Grand Prairie, Texas, sister Virginia Franco of Delano, California, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth was loved by so many and will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be Thursday, 1-9 pm, with a Celebration of Life at 6 pm.
The Life Celebration will continue on Friday, 10 am, at McCaleb Funeral Home, officiated by Dr. Rev. Steven Parker of First Baptist Church of Weslaco.
