Enedelia "Cali" G. Castro

December 14, 1950 — August 27, 2022

Weslaco: Enedelia "Cali" G. Castro, 71, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Harlingen Medical Center in Harlingen. Enedelia “Cali” was born on December 14th, 1950 to Bernardino and Consuelo (Villarreal) Gonzalez.

Cali grew up in Weslaco, the second born of seven children. She and her family migrated to Michigan most of her life, teaching Cali the value of hard work and dedication. Cali met her soulmate, Juan Castro, while they were both at Weslaco High School. Juan and Cali were married shortly after high school, and the couple continued migrating to Michigan for a few years. Finally, Juan decided it was time to stay in Weslaco year-round and raise their children, so he went to work in the flooring installation business while Cali worked at Haagar's.

In 1979, Cali and Juan became business partners, and Astro Carpet was born. Juan continued working in installation and sales, and Cali managed the bookkeeping and business side. They were a great team. Astro Carpet soon became a thriving business and landmark in Weslaco. Eventually, Cali's sister, Gloria, and son, Juan Jr., later joined the team and helped the company grow. Finally, Cali and Juan decided to retire from the flooring business after serving the community for over forty-three years.

Not only was Cali a successful entrepreneur, but she was also a great homemaker, mom, and grandma. She loved to cook, and most days, her kids enjoyed three home-cooked meals.

Cali also had a green thumb and loved keeping her garden immaculate and spending time outdoors. Cali and Juan spent a lot of time fishing on their boat, one of Cali's favorite hobbies. Cali's signature color was pink, and she would brighten up any room with her beautiful smile highlighted with bright pink lipstick.

By far, Cali was about faith and family. Her siblings remained close throughout her life, and her retirement consisted of waking up early and spending the day with her grandchildren. Cali grew up Catholic and attended mass regularly.

Cali is preceded in death by her parents, Bernardino Sr. and Consuelo Gonzalez.

She is survived by her loving husband of fifty-one years, Juan Castro Sr., children, Juan Castro Jr. (Tanya), Veronica Castro, and Annette Castillo (Jerry Sr.), siblings, Bernardino Gonzalez Jr., Gloria Cavazos (Heron), Blanca Flores, Juanita Garza, Sarah Ochoa (Leo), and Armando Gonzalez (Norma), grandchildren, Johnny III, Anissa, Cristian, and Adrian Castro, Viktoria Vento, Abel, and Ivan Hernandez, and Jerry Castillo Jr., great-grandchildren, Abigail, Rosemary, Basileus, Mia Bella, Caleb, Noah, Alissandra Mae, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 31st, 2022, 1-9 pm, with a rosary at 7 pm. Mass will be celebrated at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Weslaco at 1 pm, followed by burial at Highland Memorial Park.

Serving as pallbearers will be Juan Castro Jr., Juan Castro III, Gerardo Lee Castillo Sr., Gerardo Lee Castillo Jr., Derek Anzaldua, and Abel Hernandez. Honorary pallbearers will be Ivan Hernandez, Adrian Castro, and Cristian Castro.
