Ignacio Garcia Sr.

July 31, 1939 — January 10, 2024

Weslaco

Weslaco- Ignacio García Sr. passed away on January 10, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born July 31, 1939, in Ecleto, TX,  to Santos and Eduviges (Aguilar-Ozuna) Garcia, Ignacio lived a life filled with hard work and devotion to his Catholic faith.

Ignacio married the love of his life, Carmen Tristan on March 19, 1960,  and they raised their family in Weslaco, Tx. Ignacio and Carmen cherished their time together when the children were growing up. They went to drive-in movies often. Ignacio shared his love of music and movies from ranchero artists such as Vicente Fernandez, Antonio Aguilar and other ranchero artists with his wife and children. The Garcia family took yearly family vacations to places like Garner State Park, Galveston, Corpus Christi, and South Padre Island (Ignacio’s favorite), to name a few.

Ignacio dedicated over twenty-seven years of his life as a forklift operator in Texsun. His commitment to his career was unwavering, and he took pride in his work daily. Additionally, he served as part of the Weslaco ISD maintenance team for over ten years.

Outside of work, Ignacio had varied interests that brought him joy. He loved his Ranchito and took great pleasure in caring for it. He had a green thumb and cultivated a beautiful vegetable garden. Ignacio also raised farm animals such as cows, chickens, and turkeys. Even though he raised turkeys, he didn’t like to eat them. Ignacio’s favorite dessert was his wife’s pecan pie.

Ignacio loved horses and was most comfortable wearing his black cowboy boots and western black hat and black sombrero hat. He also enjoyed running, weight lifting, bike rides, and long walks with the love of his life.

He cherished his family. Ignacio was a devoted husband to Carmen García. Together, they built a life full of love and support. Ignacio was tremendously proud of his children and grandchildren, considering them some of his proudest accomplishments.

A man of honor and kindness, Ignacio was respected by all who knew him. His strong work ethic and dedication were evident in every aspect of his life. No task was too big or small for him; he approached everything with determination and perseverance.

Above all else, Ignacio’s faith was most important. Ignacio attended Catholic School & Mass as a child, a tradition his parents instilled in him. Ignacio led by example, attending mass weekly with his family and always on time. He prayed daily and gave of his time, talents, and income with a selfless heart. Ignacio’s character never wavered, and his example of kindness, dedication, honor, and love will be passed down to many generations.

Ignacio is preceded in death by his parents, Santos and Eduviges Garcia, son, Ignacio García Jr., and sisters, Dominga Carrillo and Juanita Garcia.
