Isabel G. Robles

April 22, 1952 — February 15, 2021

Weslaco: Isabel Robles, 68, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2021, at her home in Weslaco, Texas. Isabel was born on April 22, 1952, to Jesus Garza and Anita Ojeda Garza in Weslaco. Isabel was the second oldest of thirteen children, and most of the siblings looked to Isabel for guidance and support. The family lost their father at the age of 49 and their mother at 60, so Isabel’s role was vital to the family’s stability.

The family grew up in Weslaco, and Isabel graduated from Weslaco High School. Shortly after graduating, she began a career in banking. Isabel worked her way up to become the teller supervisor at IBC bank, where she served for thirty-seven years. While working at IBC in Harlingen, Isabel met her soulmate, Luis Robles. They were a perfect match and inseparable for the next twenty years.

Although Isabel and Luis never had children of their own, they were the favorite aunt and uncle. At one point, Isabel took the chore of driving all of her nephews and nieces to school. Isabel and Luis never turned down the opportunity to babysit and treat the kids to ice cream and a special kind of attention that only Isabel and Luis knew how to achieve. Isabel loved her family and gave selflessly and abundantly.

Isabel enjoyed working with her plants and gardening, and especially roses. She was an excellent cook, and the family loved to gather and enjoy her enchiladas, meatloaf, and tortillas, to name a few. Isabel was an animal lover and always had puppies in the house. When Isabel wanted some relaxing time, she curled up on the couch and watched Novelas, Lifetime, and Hallmark.

Isabel was a woman of faith and a devout Catholic. She was a hard worker and always went above and beyond expectations. Isabel never looked forward to retiring. She loved her job and working with people. Isabel was outgoing, charismatic, and always seemed to light up the room.

Isabel is preceded in death by her parents, Jesus and Anita Garza, and brother, Jesus Garza.

She is survived by her husband and best friend, Luis Robles, siblings, Aurelio Garza (Concha) of Donna, Alfonso Garza (Alma) of Mercedes, Rolando Garza (Betsy) of Weslaco, Maria Moreno (Jose “Pepe”) of Houston, Maggie Gonzales (Ernest), of San Antonio, Joel Garza (Alma) of Weslaco, Nina Cantu (Roy) of Weslaco, Irene Almaguer (Cesar) of Weslaco, Alfredo Garza of Weslaco, Joe Garza (Isela) of McAllen, Tony Garza of Edinburg, sisters in law, Isadora Garza of Weslaco, Ida Robles of San Benito, brothers in law, Jose Robles (Amelia) of Harlingen, Gilbert Robles (Vicky) of Corpus, Oscar Robles of Harlingen, and numerous nieces and nephews.
