James Fackler

July 11, 1937 — June 27, 2020

Weslaco, Texas/Cedar Falls, Iowa- James Wesley Fackler, 82, passed away on Saturday, June 27, at the Comfort House in McAllen, TX. James was born on July 11, 1937, to Lloyd Fackler and Mary Helen Marnin Fackler in Des Moines, Iowa.

After graduating from Lincoln High School, James enlisted in the United States Airforce. After serving his country and being honorably discharged, James returned home and began taking some college classes. His cousin set him up on a blind date with Sharon McFarland. They courted for a few years and were married in 1960. James began a career with Control-o-Fax Office Systems, where he worked as the purchasing production manager. Sharon worked as a nurse, and together, they raised three children, Randy, Kelly, and James. They attended the Geneseo United Methodist Church in Buckingham, Iowa, where James and Sharon are still members.

After retiring in 2000, James and Sharon traveled to some warmer states during the wintertime and settled in Weslaco, Texas, where they wintered the next nineteen years. James loved RV racing and was one of the park favorites when it came to calling Bingo. He had a great sense of humor and always made Bingo just a little more exciting. James was a member of The Shriners. He played in the Oriental Band and enjoyed parading with his band. As much fun as James had in his retirement; he kept in close contact with his lifelong friends. They would head down to the "White" in Arkansas twice a year to go fishing. The time with his friends and this tradition was a vacation that James always looked forward to, and the bonds that he had with his buddies was priceless. He also had a love for animals, especially his cats. James and Sharon always had a special cat in their lives, and James was sure to spoil him or her.

Most will remember James for his generosity and selflessness. He was also funny and loved to tease his grandchildren. James had a heart of gold and was a loving, honest, and devoted husband, father, and friend.

James is preceded in death by his parents; children, Randy Fackler, Kelly Scharnhorst, and James Fackler; brother, David Fackler; and brother in law, Merton McFarland Jr.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon; brother, Don (Evie) Fackler; sisters in law, Pat Fackler, Naomi McFarland; daughters in law, Teresa Fackler, Carmen Fackler; grandchildren, Amy Doherty, Cory Scharnhorst (Sarah), Sarah Jane Fackler, Trevor Pickinpaugh, Cassie Young, Christian Duffy (Brian), Cody Fackler; great-grandchildren, Addison, Owyn, Brianna, Madison, and Cassandra; and his cat, “Precious”.

A celebration of life will be held on a later date.
