Karen Jackson

October 25, 1942 — April 28, 2024

Weslaco, Texas - Karen K. (Hoover) Jackson, 81 years old, passed away on April 27, 2024 at her home after surviving a stroke and battling Alzheimer’s Disease.

Karen was born, raised, and lived in Muncie, Indiana for 64 years and then moved with her husband, Charles R. “Bob” Jackson, and their youngest daughter, Connie Sue Jackson, to Weslaco, Texas where their eldest daughter, Sharon K. Jackson, lived. Karen was a sweet, kind, and warm person who could make a friend in a minute with her smile. Her fifth grade teacher nicknamed her Smiley.

Karen was a Muncie Central High School, Class of 1960, graduate. After high school, she worked the counter at the Strand Theater. She had an opportunity to use her artistic skills and make movie posters while there. Later on, she got a job at Hook’s and was promoted to running their post office substation.

In 1965, Karen married Bob. They met on a blind date on New Year’s Eve. He asked her what she was doing the next day, and she said that she had to work. He told her that he could take her to work, and, after that, they were pretty much inseparable.

Karen spent the majority of her life being a devoted homemaker.  Her apple cobbler, chocolate sheet cake, and apple crisp were requested for family gatherings and potlucks. She enjoyed spending time with her husband and daughters being silly and watching movies or tv shows.  She was also an avid music listener, her favorites being Elvis Presley and southern gospel singer Vestal Goodman. She had a lifelong love of sports, too. Peyton Manning was her favorite athlete of all time.

Karen often had a sketch pad and pencil in her hands. She mostly did sketches but also painted a bit. She liked to stay up late at night and read newspapers, magazines, and the Bible. She was a member of The Fairlawn Church of Christ in Muncie and then a member of The Bridge Avenue Church of Christ in Weslaco.

Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Jackson, her father, Glenn F. Hoover, her mother, Ada L. (Burns) Hoover, her brother, Jack W. Hoover, and her sister, Nancy L. (Hoover) Dowling. She is survived by her brother, Michael D. Hoover, her daughters, Sharon K. Jackson and Connie S. Jackson.
