Lance Lewis

February 21, 1971 — July 29, 2023

Donna

Lance Allen Lewis of Donna, Texas, passed away Saturday night, July 29th, 2023, surrounded by friends and family from complications brought on by influenza. Lance was born on February 21st, 1971, to Errol and Barbara Lewis in Weslaco, Texas. The family lived in Elsa but moved to Donna soon after, where Lance grew up and spent the rest of his life.

Lance was a good son who participated in boy scouts at a young age. He and his family went on countless camping trips and summer vacations every year.

The neighborhood gang was always active; backyard football, bicycle ramps, Roman candle wars, and lots of good trouble made priceless memories.

Later in high school, he developed a love for music and learned to play guitar. He went on to play in bands such as Nothing Sacred and Cranial Overload. Lance and his friends also played board games for hours.

After high school, he briefly attended college at Pan American University in Edinburg, where he formed some of his lifelong friendships. He would leave college to pursue a career in the service industry, working as a server in Club-X and South Dallas.

He finally settled as bar manager at the Weslaco Elks Lodge, where he would work for nearly twenty years. Lance loved serving and being around people. Although soft-spoken, he enjoyed the unique personalities, jokes, and friendships he developed during his two decades at the Elk’s.

After leaving the Elks, Lance joined the Lions Club, volunteering at their monthly “Lion Chalupa” games and helping wherever possible.

Lance lived with his parents his entire life. After their dad (Errol) passed in 2019, Lance became his mom’s primary caregiver until her passing in 2022.

Lance always had a laugh and a smile for you and loved to crack jokes. His laugh was one of a kind, and he touched the lives of everyone he met.

Lance is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Clark and Lorena Lewis, maternal grandparents,  James and Hope Windom, and parents, Errol and Barbara Lewis, aunt, Lorna Bray.

Lance is survived by his daughter, Devann Nicole Lara-Lewis (Desserae De la Rosa); brother, Scott Lewis of Ypsilanti, MI; niece, Julie Vaughan (Ethan); nephews, Jonathan and Jacob Lewis (Bethany); aunts and uncles, Irma Malcolm (Richard) of Murrells Inlet, SC, Pamela Edwards (Henry) of Surprise, AZ, James Windom Jr.(Fena) of Charlotte, NC, Arland Lewis (Grace), Larry Lewis (Ruby), Hubert Bray, and Edna Yarbrough.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 5th, at 10 am, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11 am and a gathering of friends and family at 12:30 pm.
