Weslaco- Linda Williams was a Rio Grande Valley native through and through. She was born in Mercedes and was a lifelong resident of Weslaco. She was a graduate of Texas Christian University, where she met her husband, Jimmy Williams, to whom she was married for nearly 60 years. The Valley was where they raised their family, worked, and built deep, lifelong friendships.
She was an educator, serving as an art teacher in Weslaco I.S.D. for over 30 years. She inspired so many young people to appreciate art and to find the ability to create things of beauty from the simplest things, a trait she embodied throughout her entire life.
She carried a presence of subtle elegance and order. She was tough, but always fair. She had a way of letting you know that you really should do your best and could do it without saying a word. Her piercing blue eyes could speak to you on their own. She was always impeccably dressed, never late, and wore a beautiful smile. She was constantly on the go and could run circles around most. Her civic involvement included P.E.O., Daughters of the American Revolution, Literary Review Club, Harvest Night, Weslaco's 100th Birthday Committee, Sunday School Teacher, Cub Scout Troop Leader, Brownie Leader, and Hidalgo County Cotillion.
She was an avid reader and loved art, architecture and design, and felt they added to our world. She loved hosting events and making sure they looked amazing, simply because it lifted spirits. If you are reading this, chances are very high that you have received a handwritten note from her at some point. Maybe to say thanks, offer condolences, or just to tell you she was thinking about you. She was unbelievably thoughtful. She adored her children and grandchildren and loved nothing more than being "Granni".
She maintained dear friendships from her childhood and made new ones throughout her life with ease. Some of these friendships lasted nearly 80 years. She absolutely loved reminiscing and laughing with family and friends.
She was undefeated against leukemia twice, even once spending 100+ days at MD Anderson. She was an amazing fighter and was able to patiently take things one day at a time. Never a word of complaint from her ever, only words of gratitude and praise. Her faith was strong, unshakeable and best demonstrated by her actions towards others.
She was preceded in death by her parents E. W. 'Billy' and Dora Faye Ligon, her sister Janis Davis and her loving husband Jimmy Williams.
She was a fierce defender of her family. They loved her immensely and will miss her dearly. They include her daughter, Melissa Beckwith, and her sons, Will and McLean Beckwith; Ches Williams (wife Caroline) and their children, Chesley and Charlya Grace Williams; Chris Williams (wife Kim) and their children, Charlotte Lowman (husband Eli, and their son Xavier), and Gigi Williams. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Bettye Pomykal (husband Norman), as well as her beloved niece, Joy Robb, and nephews David Teis, Larry Teis, and Donny Teis.
A celebration of her amazing life will be held at Arturo's in Weslaco on Saturday, June 7th, from 11:00 am -2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to PEO - Chapter EN, to fund scholarships for continuing education for women, 205 Southgate Boulevard, Weslaco, Texas 78596.
