Louis "Sonny" Puente III, 80, a cherished husband and father, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025, at the Harlingen Medical Center. Born on May 29, 1945, in Raymondville, Texas, Louis lived a life marked by dedication, love, and an unwavering commitment to both his family and his country.
Louis honorably served as a combat medic in the Vietnam War, during which he earned two medals recognizing his bravery and unwavering commitment. His military service was a defining chapter of his life, instilling in him a deep sense of duty, resilience, and honor that endured long after his time in uniform. Louis was a proud Veteran who exemplified courage and compassion.
In his personal life, Louis was known for his charismatic personality and thoughtful nature. A devoted husband and loving father, he found his greatest joy in the company of his family, filling their lives with laughter and warmth. His natural ability to connect with others made him not only a respected leader in his professional endeavors but also a cherished presence within his home and community.
Louis had a wide range of passions that reflected his enthusiasm for life. He especially loved saltwater fishing in Port Isabel and South Padre Island, where he found peace in the rhythm of the tides. He also treasured quiet moments with his dogs, often accompanied by the sounds of classic rock and country music—simple pleasures that brought him deep contentment.
His Catholic faith was a cornerstone of his identity, offering guidance, comfort, and strength throughout his life. Louis’s faith deeply influenced how he treated others—with kindness, integrity, and humility.
Louis is preceded in death by his parents, Louis Byron Jr. and Margaret (Gomez) Puente.
He is survived by his wife, Ida; sons, Louis Puente IV and Aaron Puente; and stepdaughter, Desiree.
Visitation to celebrate Louise’s life will be held on June 10, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM at McCaleb Funeral Home, located at 900 W. 4th St., Weslaco, TX 78596. As per Louise’s wishes, he will be cremated.
