Pauline Whitaker

WESLACO - Pauline Whitaker, 95, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2019, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. She was born to Thomas and Ruth Schwarz in La Habra, California on November 26, 1923. She and her family moved to Mercedes, Texas in 1940 to become part of the Schwarz family farm. She graduated from Mercedes High School in 1942. Helen married her childhood sweetheart, Herschel Kelly on June 19th, 1942. He was killed in action during WWII shortly before their daughter, Thelma, was born. After the war, Pauline married Ernest Whitaker of Weslaco, Texas on February 20, 1947. They were very active members of the First Baptist Church of Weslaco where they resided. She was also very involved with the Weslaco Museum where she dedicated many years of service. Pauline enjoyed cross-stitching and reading. She was always very fit and an avid walker, spending most early mornings on her daily walk. Pauline was a resident of John Knox Village. Pauline is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Ruth Schwarz, both of her husbands, Herschel Kelly and Ernest Whitaker, two brothers, Roy Schwarz of McAllen and Thomas Schwarz of Angleton. She is survived by her daughter, Thelma Dyer (Jack) of Weslaco, grandchildren, Roxie Blood (Bobby) of Weslaco, Tad Dyer, and Jonah Dyer, great-grandchildren, Cody and Wyatt Blood, Ethan, Jack, and Logan Dyer, all of Weslaco. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 22nd, 4-7pm, family present from 5-7pm. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 23rd, 2019, 10 am, at McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel with graveside service following at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco, officiated by Dr. Rev. Steven K. Parker, First Baptist Church of Weslaco.
