Ramon Villarreal

December 26, 1950 — July 1, 2022

Weslaco: Ramon Villarreal Jr., 71, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2022, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. Ramon was born on December 26, 1950, to Ramon Villarreal Sr. and Antonia Jurado in Mexico. He met Maria Alvarez when they were living in Mexico. The couple moved to Weslaco in the early 90s, where they raised their children.

Ramon was a hard worker with an entrepreneurial spirit. Ramon loved to cook and had a secret tamale recipe. He used this passion for making the perfect tamale and supported his family by selling them, business to business, for thirty years. He and Maria were a great team. They built a great clientele and had their tamale cooking down to a science. Ramon and Maria spent countless hours meeting client demands and never missed a deadline. The children fondly remember striving to duplicate their dad’s recipe and never being able to. One reason may be because Ramon always loved his job.

Ramon loved spending time with Maria and watching novelas. He worked very hard but always made sure he had enough for some scratch-off lottery tickets, another one of Ramon’s hobbies.

Ramon was a family man, always there for Maria and the kids.

Ramon was a Christian man of God. He was baptized a week before his passing. Ramon was at complete peace with his accomplishments on Earth and his eternal salvation.

Ramon is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Maria Alvarez, daughters, Ruby Villarreal (Gonzalo de Santiago) of Mercedes, Angie Benavides (Fernando) of Donna, son, Ramon Villarreal of Weslaco, grandchildren, Gonzalo Jr., Rey, Romeo, and Gael De Santiago, Analisa, Valeria, Cesar, and David Benavides, Janelle, Nathaniel, and Adalyn Villarreal.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 3rd, 1-9 pm at McCaleb Funeral Home.
