WESLACO - Guillermina Villarreal, 98, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, March 7th, 2018. She was born on February11th, 1920 to Julio and Victoria Gonzalez in Ciudad Camargo, Mexico. She was raised with her five siblings in Mexico. She met her future husband, Jose Maria Villarreal in Comales, Tamps when she was a teenager and they were married in 1940.
They raised their children in San Miguel where Jose Maria worked as a farmer and Guillermina took care of the home and children.

In 1972, Jose and Guillermina came to the United States with their youngest children, Graciela and Santos seeking opportunity for a better future. Jose became the groundskeeper at San Martin de Porres where he worked for many years until he suffered from a stroke. Guillermina cared for him the rest of his life. He passed away soon after in 1988. Her three children were already settled in Weslaco and worked together to make sure Guillermina was cared for the rest of her life.

Guillermina loved to work in her garden and cared for all of her plants. She loved to knit and sew and made clothes for all of her children. She loved to pray and was a faithful Catholic who attended mass regularly.

Guillermina was very caring and compassionate. After raising her children and caring for her husband, she took care of her elderly siblings when they were ailing. She traveled to Rio Bravo and stayed for weeks at a time to ensure they had the proper care.

Guillermina also was able to travel with her children and grandchildren. She visited Colorado, Houston, Monterrey, Mexico City and Mazaltan. She was able to spend many holidays with her children and grandchildren in San Antonio.

Her children and grandchildren loved and respected mom and grandma, spending a lot of time with her, celebrating birthdays and holidays. She never lacked for love or care from her family.

Guillermina is preceded in death by her parents, Julio and Victoria Gonzalez, her loving husband of 48 years, her brothers, Juan and Jose Villarreal, sisters, Modesta, Maria, and Guillermina Villarreal.

She is survived by her children, Carlos Villarreal (Hilda) of Monterrey, Noe Villarreal (Maria) of Weslaco, Israel Villarreal (Leonila) of Monterrey, San Juanita Perales (Julio) of Monterrey, Graciela Giron (Rodolfo) of Weslaco, Jesus Santos Villarreal of Weslaco, grandchildren, Noelia Perez (Ruben) of Weslaco, Amanda Munoz (Humberto) of Weslaco, Cecilia Beltran (Virgilio) of Weslaco, Noe Villarreal Jr. of Weslaco, Virginia Villarreal of San Antonio, Enrique Villarreal (Kati) of Monterry, Hilda V.
