Marjorie Terveen

WESLACO - Marjorie Terveen, age 95, of Donna, Texas, passed away and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 10, 2019, at Heights of Alamo in Alamo, Texas. Marjorie was born on September 2, 1924, in Hastings, Minnesota. She attended elementary school in a one-room country school in Etter, Minnesota, graduated high school in Hastings, Minnesota, and attended the University of Northwestern in St. Paul, Minnesota for two years. Marjorie traveled with two friends to Donna in 1946 to teach Vacation Bible School as a summer missionary for the Rio Grande Bible Institute in Edinburg, Texas. While in the Valley, she met and fell in love with Dedrick Terveen, Jr. (Buddy) after he had recently returned from World War II. Marjorie and Buddy were united in marriage on October 1, 1946, after a short courtship and were together for seventy-two years. They resided in North Donna where the Terveen family farmed. Marjorie and Buddy loved and raised four sons and one daughter together.


Marjorie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dedrick Terveen, Jr.; parents, Gustav and Ida Carlson Holmstrom; siblings, Linnea Pajerski, Lucile Pike, Clarice Valois, Verlin Holmstrom, Kenneth Holmstrom, Paul Holmstrom, and James Holmstrom; sons, Donald Terveen and Kenneth Terveen.


Marjorie is survived by siblings: Violet Borner and Betty Deering (Loren); daughter in law Linda Terveen (Donald) of Frisco, TX; daughter in law Vickey Terveen (Kenneth) of McAllen, TX; son Dedrick Terveen, III (Melinda) of Arlington, TX; daughter Joan Lavender (James) of Lewisville, TX; and son Melvin Terveen (Beverly) of Weslaco, TX; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.


Marjorie was active in teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Women's Missionary Union, and hosted families and missionaries in her home. For five years, Marjorie led many children to the Lord through Child Evangelism classes. She worked for Donna ISD as a librarian for twenty years. Marjorie was dedicated to her Lord and started each morning reading Daily Bread devotional and prayed for family and friends with Buddy. Marjorie was an avid reader of the Bible and loved to study Scripture. Books were close at hand for her to pick up and read. She loved to write poetry, watch Jeopardy, cook, sew, sing and play the piano. Marjorie was a member and served God at Central Valley Baptist Church for 54 years in Donna, Texas. She was a dedicated librarian for many years at First Baptist Church of Weslaco, Texas. When Marjorie retired, she and Buddy traveled to several locations enjoying their family and life at home on the farm. She has resided at Brook Ridge Community Living in Pharr, Texas since 2017.


A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, November 30, 2019, at First Baptist Church of Weslaco with Pastor Steven Parker officiating. Marjorie will be laid to rest beside her loving husband, Buddy Terveen, at Donna City Cemetery.


Honorary pallbearers are grandsons; Ryan Terveen, Justin Terveen, Lance Terveen, William Lavender, Cameron Terveen, and nephew Robert Harms.
