Alejos Saenz

January 24, 1941 — July 5, 2025

Alejos Saenz, a beloved brother, devoted husband and father, respected businessman, and proud ambassador of the Weslaco community, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025. He was 84 years old. Alejos leaves behind a legacy of dedication, integrity, and love that touched the lives of many and helped shape the heart of his hometown.

Born on January 24, 1941, in Edcouch, Texas, Alejos was the cherished son of Guadalupe and Juanita (Tamez) Saenz. Raised in a home rooted in faith, hard work, and compassion, he carried those values with him throughout his life.

Alejos met the love of his life, Aurora De Leon, at a quinceañera. Over the next few years, they saw each other at parent-sponsored events, dancing together hundreds of times before marrying in 1964. Their love story spanned six decades, filled with laughter, travel, and a deep devotion to each other. Together, they lit up many dance floors and countless lives.

Alejos attended Pan American University and went on to build a remarkable career in the automotive industry. As the owner of Mid Valley Motors and later a sales leader and manager at several prominent dealerships—including Payne Motors, Bert Ogden, and Charlie Clark—he earned a reputation not only for his sharp business acumen but also for his unwavering integrity and generosity. Alejos mentored countless young professionals, always eager to uplift and empower those around him. For him, the work was never just about selling cars—it was about serving people. He became such a regular at the driver’s license department—often stepping in to help staff complete paperwork—that they even celebrated his birthday there. Many of his customers became lifelong friends, a testament to the trust and relationships he cultivated throughout his career.

His entrepreneurial spirit was matched only by his love for Weslaco. As a tireless community advocate, Alejos worked to foster unity and progress, spearheading charitable projects, mentorship programs, and civic initiatives. Alejos was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus. His leadership and passion have left a permanent mark on the community he loved so dearly.

Alejos was a loving and involved husband and father. He and Aurora traveled the world together—visiting nearly every state in the U.S., as well as the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico City, Iceland, and much of Asia. Wherever Aurora’s career took her, Alejos was right by her side, always ready for a new adventure.

At home, Alejos was deeply devoted to his daughters. He and Aurora never missed an event, competition, or award ceremony. Whether chaperoning Girl Scout trips or cheering from the stands at Weslaco High football games, Alejos showed up with pride and joy. He served as Band Booster President and faithfully supported the Pacesetters, often traveling with the team to competitions, including performances in Mexico City and New Orleans. Outside of school activities, Alejos and Aurora welcomed their daughters’ friends with open arms, often hosting celebrations, gatherings, and impromptu parties. Their home was a place of warmth and joy, always filled with laughter, music, and the lively energy of the girls and their closest companions.

Alejos loved sports and remained a devoted fan throughout his life. He rarely missed a Weslaco Panthers home game and regularly attended basketball games and other local competitions, always cheering on his hometown with pride. A loyal Houston Astros fan, Alejos watched as many games as he could and often attended in person. When his daughter worked for the team for six years, he was over the moon with pride. He also enjoyed golfing outings with friends and family, cherishing both the sport and the time spent together.

Alejos’s deep Catholic faith was a cornerstone of his life. He and Aurora were longtime supporters of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church—where they were married—and for many years, they mentored young couples through marriage preparation courses and pastoral guidance. Later, they became involved at San Martin Church, where they contributed to the construction of the new sanctuary. In recent years, they were devoted parishioners at St. Pius X Catholic Church, actively participating in church events, children’s ministry, and retreats. Alejos attended Mass faithfully, and even as his health declined, he continued to worship alongside Aurora through online services each week.

He will be remembered as a man of unwavering love—for his family, his community, and his God. His warmth, laughter, and generosity enriched every life he touched.

Alejos is preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe and Juanita Saenz, and siblings Beto Saenz, Fred Saenz, Ernestina Saenz, and Elvia Cisneros.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Aurora Saenz; their daughters, Suzanne Saenz (Timothy Brown) and Cynthia Saenz (Paul Weathers); Josie Beltran (Gregory Reise), whom he lovingly helped raise as his own; and Ana Escobar, who became a cherished part of their family in later years and was embraced like a daughter. He is also survived by his siblings, Guadalupe Saenz Jr. (Edna), Eva Hernandez (Feliciano “Chano”), and Esmeralda Mohena (Victor); grandchildren, Zachary (Ariel) and Lauren Hernandez (Cameron Casanova), Matthew Lemon (Jessica), Angel, Isabella, and Santiago Zozaya; great-grandkids, McKenzie and Marcus Lemon, and many nieces, nephews, and treasured friends and colleagues.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 8, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at McCaleb Funeral Home, with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 9, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Weslaco. Alejos will be laid to rest at Sacred Park Cemetery in Mercedes, Texas.

Alejos' legacy will live on in every life he touched. May his memory be a blessing, and may we honor him by continuing the work he so faithfully began.
