Alfredo Cuellar Sr.'s Obituary
Weslaco— Alfredo Cuellar Sr., 81, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Mid Valley Nursing & Rehab. He was born on February 6, 1945, in Weslaco, Texas, to Calixto and Felipa (Maldonado) Cuellar. Raised in humble circumstances, Alfredo faced hardship early in life with the loss of his father—an experience that helped shape the strength, resilience, and work ethic he carried throughout his life. As a young man, he worked as a migrant laborer, traveling to northern states such as Michigan each year for seasonal work.
Alfredo married Rosario Aguirre, the love of his life, and together they built a home and raised their family in Weslaco. The two met as children in elementary school where they established a special bond at a young age which withstood the boundaries of time and later flourished into the beautiful union of marriage.
Driven and determined, Alfredo founded his own trucking business, Cali Express, alongside his four sons. He took immense pride in his work, always keeping his 18-wheeler spotless and in top condition. Throughout his long-haul trucking career, Alfredo traveled across the country, forming lifelong friendships and connections along the way. Alfredo’s greatest accomplishment was truck driving all of his life, to the age of 73, when he retired to help care for his beloved wife and enjoy his time by her side.
Despite the demands of the road, Alfredo treasured time at home with his family. Alongside his wife Rosario, their children eagerly awaited the days he returned, when he could rest and enjoy the comfort of being together. On his days off he was somewhat of a homebody who loved watching old westerns, keeping up with the daily news, and cheering on his favorite sports teams—the Dallas Cowboys and the Los Angeles Dodgers. He had a taste for good food and often enjoyed indulging in his favorite delicacy, cabrito.
Alfredo was a physically imposing man with a commanding voice, yet those who knew him well understood his gentle and generous spirit. He was always ready to help anyone in need without hesitation and was a loyal friend to all who knew him. Above all, Alfredo was the patriarch of his family—a steady presence, a provider, and a man whose strength and love will continue to guide generations to come.
Raised in the Catholic faith, Alfredo later reaffirmed his faith in Christ through baptism at a non-denominational, spirit-filled church where he came to know Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Calixto and Felipa Cuellar; his son, Calixto Cuellar; and his siblings, Calixto Cuellar Jr., Fernando Cuellar, and Diamantina Zuniga.
Alfredo is survived by his beloved wife, Rosario Cuellar; his only daughter, Rosie Martell (Carlos); his sons, Freddy Cuellar (Janie), Joe Cuellar (Darcia), and Fernando Cuellar; his daughter-in-law, Teresa Cuellar; his sister, Nora Robles (Rey+); and his cherished grandchildren, Alfredo Cuellar III (Tina), Debbie Van-Aken (Randy), Jaime Cuellar, Calixto Cuellar Jr., Iliana Cuellar, Carlos Cuellar, Joe Cuellar Jr. (Jessica), Darcy Cuellar, Caroline Mendoza (Nick), Evelyn Cuellar, Rosanna Cuellar, Katarina Garcia, Molly Hernandez (Frank), Destynee Cuellar, Bo Martell, and Bobby Martell, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Alfredo’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at McCaleb Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest at Sacred Park Cemetery in Mercedes.
