Avelina Flores' Obituary
Weslaco, TX- Avelina Rincon Flores 83 passed away peacefully at her residence on June 29, 2026. She was born in Weslaco, TX on May 24, 1943 to Ponciano & Antonia Y. Rincon Sr. and raised locally with her 9 brothers and sisters.
It was at Weslaco High where her high school sweetheart would become her husband. They both graduated from WHS in 1963 where Avelina was a proud member of the pep squad. She tied the knot with Julian Flores, Jr. Their love bore two sons and one daughter. +Julian Javier Flores, Jaime Abel Flores, and Cynthia Ann Flores, who were raised in Avelina’s childhood home on 821 N. Republic Blvd.
While her husband left to work in California, the family left for a period of time. Her father instilled a strong work ethic in her. She worked at JC Penny in historical downtown Weslaco and later helped her husband manage and co-own Flores Insurance Agency, Flores Tax Service and The Panthers Den raspa stand. She enjoyed traveling; Las Vegas was a favorite, and she had recently celebrated her 80th birthday there.
Politics, sports, and barbecue were the norm. Her TV had one channel– CNN. She had season tickets for her beloved Panther football games. Her baseball team was the Houston Astros. Don't mess with her San Antonio Spurs or Dallas Cowboys. Her favorite players were Manu Ginobili and Troy Aikman, and she attended several live games. She enjoyed a good barbecue in her backyard or years ago, spending summers in their RV at Isla Blanca Park at SPI.
Avelina is preceded in death by her husband Julian, Jr. and her son Julian Javier, and her parents. She is survived by her son Jaime Abel, and daughter Cynthia Ann; Granddaughters, Jenny F. Ortiz (William Ortiz Jr.), and Julieza Flores.
Visitation will be on Monday, July 6, 2026 from 1:00-9:00 pm, with a Rosary at 7:00 pm. A funeral mass will take place on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at 1:00 pm, at San Martin De Porres Catholic Church. Interment will follow at 2:00 pm, at Highland Memorial Park.
Pall bearers for Avelina will be: William Ortiz Jr., Elliot Richeson, Adrian Grimaldo, Rick Vasquez, Ruben Vasquez, Jr., and Emilio De Los Santos IV. Honorary Pall bearers will be: Rene Aguirre, Eddie De Los Santos, and Rene Vasquez.

We know that her faith has her rejoicing with our Lord. We will remember that bright smile and her presence at that house on the corner. It's not goodbye, just good night.
