Blanca G. Munoz's Obituary
Blanca Garcia Munoz was born September 18, 1936, in Raymondville, Texas. At the age of 88, she went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 31st, at her residence in Weslaco. Blanca was preceded in death by her parents, Ernesto and Fabian Garcia.Blanca is survived by her only sibling, Ernestina Heathington. She leaves behind her only child, Saul Rene Munoz, daughter-in-law, Pamela Munoz, three grandsons and their spouses, Aaron Saul (Laura), Alex Reid (Kyndra), Max Anthony (Kristin), and her adoring great-grandchildren, Bailey Mendiola, Javier, Felix, Emory, and Isabel.Blanca spent her early life in Raymondville. She ignited her love for knowledge and education when at the age of six years, she began attending boarding school in Brownsville. This experience enhanced her independence and fostered her innate leadership qualities.She later returned to the Raymondville school system and graduated from Raymondville High School in 1955. Blanca began her collegiate endeavors at Texas A & I in Kingsville. It is there that she met the love of her life, Juan Saul Munoz, whom she married in June of 1956. Blanca and Saul moved the family to San Antonio to attend Our Lady of the Lake University, where she went on to complete her bachelor's degree in education.She set about her life-long career in public service, when she began teaching First Grade in 1959, in the Raymondville School System. The family moved to Weslaco in 1972, where Blanca touched the lives of thousands as a teacher, administrator, Educational Consultant, and Community Leader through various Boards, Organizations, and Committees.1972 - Taught First Grade in WISD1973 - Became Educational Diagnostician at WISD1975 - Became Special Education Supervisor at WISD1979 - Became Special Education Director at WISD1987 - Named Deputy Superintendent for South Texas ISD1995 - Retired with 37 years of Service2001 - 2010 - Served as Director of the KNAPP Medical BoardBlanca served her community further through her participation and official capacity on the Texas Migrant Council, Weslaco Chamber of Commerce (Woman of the Year in 2010), Induction into the Hidalgo Walk of Fame, Weslaco Police Board, and Texas Retired Teachers Local Chapter, earning multiple Awards and Recognition.After retiring, Blanca and Saul's love of Travel and Adventure lead them to explore the cultures and cuisines of Mexico, all fifty US states, Canada, and multiple European countries, often accompanied by their close friends. Blanca lost her devoted husband in 2010 and found comfort in focusing her attention on her son and his expanding family.Blanca will be remembered for her compassion, generosity, devotion to educational enlightenment, and immeasurable love for friends and family. Her greatest joy and brightest smiles came in the company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will fondly remember her as 'Gigi'.The family wishes to thank Dr. Daisy Arce and Dr. Pedro McDougal, the caring personnel of IPH Hospice, along with Blanca's dedicated Providers, Veronica Perez and Mary Villanueva, for their tireless fidelity to Blanca's well-being. We also extend our gratitude and thanks to her dear friends, Grace Camargo, Gloria Saenz, and countless others, who offered their prayers, support and comfort in Blanca's time of need.All arrangements will be provided by McCaleb Funeral Home, 900 W. Fourth, in Weslaco, on Monday, August 4th. Visitation will be held from 9 am to 11:30 am, with a Rosary Recital to follow. A Funeral Ceremony will be held immediately following the Rosary. The internment will be at Rio Grande Valley Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Mission, at 2 pm.If so inclined, in lieu of flowers, please honor Blanca's memory by making a donation to one of the following charitable organizations: The American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer's Association, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
