Weslaco- Catalina "Cathy" Moran, 53, a cherished family member, devoted business owner, and respected community leader, passed away on May 9, 2025, at DHR Hospice after a courageous three-year battle with cancer. Born on May 28, 1971, in Elsa, Texas, Cathy was a vibrant and generous spirit whose love and dedication left a lasting impact on everyone she encountered.
Cathy dedicated much of her life to managing the family business, Moran's Leather, where her leadership and heart were woven into every detail. With a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from The University of Texas -Pan American, she skillfully blended education with passion, ensuring the continued success of the family legacy. Her tireless work and unwavering commitment reflected her deep love for both her family and the community they served.
Affectionately known as the “cool aunt,” Cathy’s vibrant personality lit up every room she entered. She was energetic, generous, thoughtful, and warm-hearted—a natural peacemaker within her family. Cathy had a rare gift for making everyone feel seen, heard, and valued. Whether offering thoughtful advice or a listening ear, her presence brought comfort and clarity. She became legendary among her nieces and nephews—and later their children—for her perfectly timed gifts and impeccable taste. From the latest fashion trends to lovingly crafted Christmas stockings, Easter baskets, and graduation surprises, Cathy’s thoughtful touch was always unforgettable.
Cathy deeply cherished family traditions, especially during the holidays. Christmas was her favorite, and her passion shone through in the elaborate themed decorations she designed each year—a true reflection of her love for decorating and party planning. Always the thoughtful planner, Cathy shopped year-round to ensure both her home and the family store were beautifully adorned for every season. Her creative spirit extended beyond décor; she found joy in crafting and scrapbooking, preserving memories with the same care and detail she brought to every celebration.
In her personal life, Cathy found joy in the simple pleasures she shared with those she loved. An avid shopper, she had a remarkable talent for spotting the best deals and was known for her legendary shopping trips to San Marcos, long before the Rio Grande Valley had outlet malls of its own. She looked forward to black Friday and filled her car with the latest and greatest specials. Her adventurous and spontaneous spirit came alive when she would surprise her nieces and nephews by pulling them out of school early for impromptu outings filled with shopping sprees, movie nights, and memorable meals. Cathy appreciated a good medium rare steak with some A-1 sauce and a glass of sweet tea. Two of her favorite spots were Longhorn Steakhouse and Cheddar’s.
Cathy also loved to travel. With one beloved son, she often invited a niece or nephew to join her on her adventures, creating cherished memories along the way. One of her favorite destinations was Abasolo, Guanajuato, Mexico, a place close to her heart that she visited often and spoke of fondly. These trips were filled with laughter, bonding, and the kind of joy Cathy effortlessly brought into the lives of others.
As an early adopter of technology, Cathy used it as a tool to stay closely connected with her loved ones and her community. She prioritized checking in regularly with family and friends, reflecting her deep care and attentiveness. Always “in the know,” Cathy had a special knack for keeping up with the meaningful milestones and the lighthearted happenings of those around her, making her a trusted source for updates and a beloved part of the family grapevine.
Cathy was a devoted Catholic who faithfully attended St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church throughout her life. She received all of her sacraments there, grounding her life in faith, love, and service. In her final days, Cathy was at peace, confident in her salvation and the unwavering love of her Lord and Savior. Her faith was a quiet strength that guided her actions and comforted those around her.
Cathy’s memory will forever be cherished by her family and friends, who will remember her vivacity and kindness. She leaves a legacy that will inspire those who knew and loved her, reminding us of the importance of connection, generosity, and living fully in each moment.
