Consuelo "Connie" Garza's Obituary
Weslaco- Consuelo “Connie” Garza, 77, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco.
Consuelo attended cosmetology school as a teenager and quickly discovered the career for which she was perfectly suited. For more than sixty years, she worked as a cosmetologist, combining her natural talent with an outgoing personality, cheerful spirit, strong work ethic, and unwavering faith. These qualities helped her build New Creations Beauty Salon into a thriving business that served the community for more than thirty years.
Consuelo’s salon was much more than a place where people came to have their hair done. Many of her clients became lifelong friends, and she became a trusted mentor, adviser, and life coach to countless people. Connie genuinely loved her work and treasured the relationships she formed throughout the years.
A naturally social person, Connie enjoyed dancing and spending time with friends and family. Her joyful presence made every family gathering more memorable, whether it was a wedding, birthday, holiday, or a simple evening together at home.
Connie also loved traveling and spending time in nature. She enjoyed trying her luck at the casinos in Las Vegas, escaping to the cooler temperatures of Michigan and Alaska.. At home, she could often be found working in her garden, lovingly tending to her fruit trees, desert roses, and cactus plants. She especially loved hummingbirds and always made sure their feeders were full.
A devoted Catholic, Connie lived her faith through service and generosity. She volunteered at the St. Pius X Catholic Church thrift shop and enjoyed sharing her cosmetology skills and love by cutting residents' hair at Valley Grande Manor.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Leonardo Garza and Ernestina Herrera Garza.
She is survived by her daughter, Angelica Hinojosa and her husband, Emilio; her son, Abel De Anda; her sisters, Gloria Leal and her husband, Daniel, and Sylvia Palomo and her husband, Roel; her brothers, Raul Garza and his wife, Celia, Leonardo Garza Jr. and his wife, Eva, Ernesto Garza and his wife, Elva, and Jaime Garza; her grandsons, Emilio Rene Hinojosa III and Armando Javier Hinojosa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Connie’s life will be celebrated with visitation on Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m.
