WESLACO

Darwin I. Dittburner, a respected entrepreneur, builder, and developer, passed away at his home in Weslaco on February 1, 2024. He was born on June 26, 1933, in Bancroft, Wisconsin, to Irle Fred and Nila Irene (Beggs) Dittburner.

Encouraged by his younger brother Larry, Darwin moved to Weslaco, Texas, in 1970, where he would make his indelible mark in the community and spend the rest of his life.

Darwin Dittburner was a man of many accomplishments, leaving a lasting impact on the community he called home. His first major project, the Best Western Palm Aire, showcased his determination and resourcefulness. Coordinating with the city authorities to ensure water accessibility to the location was just one of the hurdles he overcame. The Best Western Palm Aire became a beloved mid-valley attraction for the next four decades, providing countless visitors with comfortable accommodations and unforgettable memories.

Driven by his ambition and unwavering intelligence, Darwin rose above challenges throughout his career. He displayed an exceptional ability to navigate complex situations and find innovative solutions. Weslaco owes much of its development and progress to his foresight and dedication as a builder and developer.

Darwin’s commitment to community welfare resonated deeply with all who knew him. Darwin was not only a successful businessman; he was also a compassionate and supportive friend.

Darwin is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Betty Peterson Dittburner; son, Danny Dittburner (Tomi Jane); brother, Larry Dittburner (Patti); grandsons, Wyatt Dittburner (Lauren)  and Wade Dittburner; and nieces, Tami and Margo Dittburner Sunderland.

As per Darwin’s wishes, there will be no services. Donations should be made to Blessings from Friends in Harlingen, Texas.
